Two points re Backup settings:

1. As written 'Backup Settings' suggests that clicking here will offer a menu of settings for controlling Backups. The current function would be more accurately described as 'Backup DF Settings.' This is a trivial point but the reason for me mentioning it is as a consequence of point 2 below.

2. Many programs have now started placing folders in a user's 'My Documents' folder, DF included. This is extremely irritating as My Documents quickly becomes cluttered with largely irrelevant folders. Is there a way within DF of changing the default location of DF backups? I couldn't find one (I haven't yet been into the Registry).

1. Interesting point! How about "Export Settings"? Would that be a bit more intuitive in your opinion?

2. This is something that we'll hopefully be able to do in 5.1, so I'll be sure to post an update as soon as there's a beta available that lets you change the default backup location.

Thanks!

Hi Keith, I think 'Export Settings' would certainly better describe the functionality.

Thank you for looking into the option to change the back-up location.

Best Regards

Hi Keith,

A little disappointed that neither of these changes made it into 5.1. Are they being looked at for 5.2?

They are currently on our list for 5.2, and we'll post an update when they make it into a beta :)

Being able to backup the settings from the command line would be helpful from a remote admin's perspective(scripting the install). Being able to provide a filename and location for the file would be helpful in this situation as well.

@Dan: You actually can backup from the command line starting with DisplayFusion 5.1. Check out the -settingsbackup parameter here: http://www.displayfusion.com/faq#commandline

Thanks!

Is there a way to change the default backup path? I wan to move the folder from my documents to my owncloud folder so it just syncs.
Thanks

Not yet, but we're hoping to add it in a future version. I'll be sure to post an update when we do.

Thanks!

The button label still hasn't been changed and I can't see an option for changing the path.
Are either of these changes going to be implemented?

They're still open on our list, but I can't give an ETA yet. I'll be sure to post a follow-up when I have more news on this.

Thanks!

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version and you can now specify a different path for the automatic DisplayFusion backups in the Settings > Advanced Setting window. We've also renamed the "Backup Settings" button to "Export Settings."

Thanks!

Just installed version 6.0; thanks for implementing this option. I have just added the path via Advanced Settings and run an 'Export Settings;' works perfectly.

I hope this further clarifies the above conversation thread:

To change the default Export (now called Backup Settings Path Override):
1. Right Click the Display Fusion System Tray iCon.
2. Choose (i.e. Click) Settings.
3. Choose Advanced Settings (button at bottom of form)
4. In General section, double click Backup Settings Path Override
5. Enter the desired Backup Path (e.g. c:\C:\ProgramData\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\Backups) and choose Ok,
6. Choose Ok to exit the configuration form.

Note: The above c:\programData folder is hidden by default.

It took me some time to figure out exactly what to do for DisplayFusion Pro 9.5, so I wanted to provide some written clarification for others and for future reference.
