Hello,

I'd like to report a bug since version 5.1.1. If I select an application to be always on top it works perfectly. The problem appears when I move the always-on-top window to another monitor: the always on top pin is automatically disabled and the app stops being on top. It also happens sometimes when the window is dragged from one to another location within the same monitor.

My computer details:
- Windows 8.1 Pro x64 (upgraded from Windows 8 ) - It seems that there are some differences between 8.1 fresh install and upgraded...
- DisplayFusion PRO 5.1.1 beta 6 (having problem since 5.1.1 stable)
- Two monitors, one Samsung P2270HD 22.7' (1920x1080) and other LG L192WS 19.2' (1440x900)

I hope this gets fixed soon, I really need the always on top feature :)

Which applications does this happen with? Also, did it only start happening after updating to 5.1.1 Beta 6?

Thanks!

Hello!

It started happening after 5.1.1 stable release, and happens in every beta after it.

It actually happens with every application I try to keep always on top. I usually have "MediaPortal" or Windows' calculator pinned on top.

I hope this helps. If you need any more information please let me know.

Regards

No problem :)

I wasn't able to reproduce this here though. Maybe I have the steps wrong?
  • Set a window to Always on Top
  • Move it to another monitor (I tried the DisplayFusion "Move to Next Monitor" Function, as well as just dragging the window)

Let me know if my steps were incorrect and I'll try again :)

Hi, after some tests I noticed the exact way to reproduce this, which requires the application that's making this crash to be installed (MediaPortal: http://www.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-download ):

  • Open any application (ie MS Word)
  • Open MediaPortal (must be installed and running in windowed mode (ALT+ENTER)
  • Set MediaPortal window as always on top
  • Switch to MS Word, type anything.
  • Then move the MediaPortal window to another monitor (it also happens sometimes without moving it, it just loses the always on top property suddenly)

This happens to ALL windows when MediaPortal is opened... I understand you may not be interested in fix this if it's very hard, because it seems to happen when one specific application is opened, so if you decide not to look after this I will be also happy. I can move to any other media centre software.

Thanks.Regards

Ok, just wanted to post a follow-up, with unfortunately, some bad news. These apps keep messing with their own z-order for some reason, which is causing the DF always-on-top Function to stop working. Unfortunately it's not something we can fix from our end :(

Sorry!

Hi Keith,

Thanks a lot for your reply, it's nice to know that you care about us :)

I finally uninstalled MediaPortal and started trying another program, which may be interesting for other users with the same problem: ProgDVB. This app works with always on top button.

Thanks again, I think this is the best software I ever purchased!
