Right now we group the buttons by process, but I'll look into this to see if there's a workaround, and if not, we'll put this on our list of things to fix up

Ok, there is a workaround, not sure if it will suit you but here it is anyways

Right-click the DisplayFusion taskbar, navigate to Multi-Monitor Taskbar > Shortcuts > Left (so that it's no longer set to combine with running programs).

Not an ideal workaround, but hopefully will help for now.
