1. When DF is handling Alt-Tab, it shows a window for PST2PST, an agent for Outlook PST backup, which does not have a window.

2. Having DF Advanced Options Don't Show Desktop Window in Alt+Tab and Show Window Text for Alt+Tab Items don't seem to do anything if Force Alt+Tab Handler Enabled is not enabled, so perhaps that should be mentioned?

3. I enabled DF Alt-Tab handling because the default Win7 Alt-Tab handler was hiding behind preview windows. It appears this is a Win7 explorer bug, a fix is discussed in the article below. It would be really nice if DF could implement this fix, at least as an option.

1. I'll test this out and add it to our list.

2. Advanced Settings are only there to modify the behaviour of DisplayFusion features, (save for the Alt-Tab handler, which is currently experimental) but we'll add a note to that option to state that it's only for the DisplayFusion Alt-Tab handler. :)

3. That's a great fix! I love the name of his utility too: "Cygnus Software’s Super Alt+Tab Fix-it Magic Ronco Latenight Infomercial Madness AltTabFixContinuous.exe." I'm not sure if this is something we should include in DisplayFusion, but I'll definitely put it on our list for further investigation.

Thanks!

It doesn't look like I can easily get a trial for the Outlook PST backup software. Would you be able to follow the attached instructions to send me the window info for that invisible window? Instead of using the picker, you may need to choose "Process hierarchy" from the drop-down, and then expand the pst2pst process to get the info.

Thanks!

Regarding Alt+Tab: It would be nice if
  • It looks more or less the same as Windows 7 standard Alt+Tab (or make it configurable), current look is too Metroish.
  • It displays on a monitor where cursor is, or where active window is
Would it make sense to display only windows from current monitor? What about Alt+Tab display windows from all monitors and Win+Tab displays windows from current monitor (based on mouse position or active window). Win+Tab and Alt+Tab can look same, I don't care about any Aero 3D whatever.

I've added the Win 7 style request to our list :)

We are planning to add an option to have it only show the windows on the current monitor. We wouldn't be able to do Win + Tab, because that switches between Metro apps in Windows 8/8.1 now, but it will likely be an option in the Settings.

Thanks!

I'd also like to see the windows 7/8 theme.

Along with options to modify its layout as well, similar to "alt-tab tuner" for win7
-modify number of items in each row
-modify the size of the previews and icons

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version and there are now some new Alt-Tab options on the Window Management tab, one of which is an option to show Alt-Tab only on the current monitor :)

Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

Hi, Just here to put one more vote in on a standard "Windows 7" style alt-tab task switcher -- which includes only the icons. I much prefer the compact icon view with an opaque background to the window view with a transparent background. It looks like you guys are close, the icons are over the windows -- it looks like a matter of taking out functionality (transparency and window image). Is this user interface adjustment still on the request list?

It is indeed still on our list, so I've added your vote :)

Unfortunately at the moment, I can't offer an ETA, but we will definitely post an update here when we're able to get it done.

Thanks!

FYI, it looks like DF Alt-Tab is no longer showing the invisible Window for PST2PST.

PS How would I have used Window Detective to point at the invisible window, since it isn't visible? :)

That's good to hear! You can find windows that aren't visible by changing the drop-down in Window Detective to "Process window heirarchy." That shows all windows for a given process in the tree :)
