Hi,
I've been trying to use DisplayFusion Remote but it seems the remote control app requires the use of an IP Address. Would it be possible to use an hostname instead, if there isn't any limitation to do so?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if the mobile apps can do WINS lookups to be honest, but we'll put this on our list and see what we can do :)

In most cases, the app should find the computer automatically if it's on the same network, and the Remote Control feature is already enabled in the DisplayFusion Settings. Is that not working on yours?

I was attempting to use it on one of my computer at work, but our computers and wireless devices are on a different subnet (they still can communicate between eachothers). Since the PCs are on DHCP, they might not keep the same IP address so I would have saved its hostname instead.

Thanks!

Ah gotcha, thanks for the additional information. That makes sense :)

I've added this to our list, and we'll definitely let you know if we're able to add it in a future version.

Thanks!

Speaking of which, I don't get it; the instructions are spare here, and I have tried refreshing my Android app after enabling the feature and do not see anything in the list. The instructions don't mention anything about the "+" button to add an IP address and/or host name, so it's impossible (without guessing and wasting time trialing) to know what works. Please refine your manual/online help to at least the bare minimum, thanks.

The "Adding a Computer Manually" section of this guide: http://www.displayfusion.com/KB/DFRemote/#manualadd should be what you're looking for, no?

Just wondering if you have the hostname/computername process worked out...

Cheers!

Unfortunately not. We looked into this, but Android doesn't allow for WINS name resolution. If you had a fully qualified DNS name for the desktop machine, it should work, but that would require you to setup a DNS server :(
