Hallo,

I've set up 2 monitor configurations using the nvidia control panel and made a DF monitor configuration from them:

- single monitor Dell 1920-1080 (profiles.jpg)
- extended desktop Dell 1920-1080 and Panasonic TV 720p (profiles.jpg)

The resolution of the Panasonic TV is altered by the nvidia control panel (by me) to compensate for the overscan to fit the sceen. But even if I don't use this feature, the following problem occurs.

The profiles are saved correctly, but when I switch the to "Dell only" profile and switch back to the "dell - panasonic" profile, the resolution of the Panasonic TV has changed. To correct this I have to go into the nvidia control panel to set it back to 1280-720 (or 1216-684) (afterswitch.jpg)

I've tried to figure out what is causing the change, DF or the nvidia control panel, but I can find the problem.

What is causing this annoyance?

Do you always need to set it up first using the Nvidia Control Panel, even if you don't set the overscan? Or are you able to setup each layout manually with the DisplayFusion Monitor Configuration and then save them as profiles?

No, I can't. It has to be done in the nvidia control panel.

When I try to set it up in DF, I can choose the correct resolution (the resized and the native 720p (setup.jpg)

-When choosing the resized resolution: after hitting "Apply". DF sets it to 1024-768, 30Hz (apply.jpg)
-When choosing the native 1280-720: after hitting "Apply". DF sets it to 1280-768, 30Hz (apply.jpg)

DF can't seem to lock on to the 720p.

Ok, interesting. Next question is, are you able to set it up manually with the Windows Screen Resolution settings? It sounds like the Nvidia Control Panel might be doing some extra stuff that we're not able to do through the Windows APIs.

Tried it, but also here no easy answer:

-When selecting "clone", it work (windows.jpg)
-When selecting "extended desktop", it doesn't. It reacts in the same way als DF. It selects 1024-768 (windows.jpg)

Since "clone" is working. I tried selecting "clone" in DF. But no, no succes... same thing: selects 1024-768 (DFclone.jpg)

Also tried Beta 6.0.0, maybe that but help, but no difference.

Here's en extra clue:

When I setup the profile in the nvidia control panel and saved the setup in DF, when hovering over the DF icon in the taskbar, it showed the correct dimensions and frequencies. After applying the single monitor profile and re-applying the extended profile, the info has changed into the "wrong" settings when hovering over the DF icon.

It seems DF changes my settings I made for that profile?

Ok, that actually does make sense. If you're not able to change it with the Windows Screen Resolution settings, DisplayFusion can't do it either, as it uses the Windows APIs to set the monitor settings. When DisplayFusion tries to apply the settings, if Windows says "I can't set something here" and changes it to something else, DisplayFusion will put the new setting into the Profile so that it doesn't fail the next time.

We're hoping to add support for the NVIDIA Control Panel APIs in a future version though, so we'll be sure to let you know if/when we're able to!

I see. But it works well on my laptop (also with nvidia card, drivers and custom resolution for overscan).

Does it depend on which version of nvidia driver you have installed?
Are the latest nvidia driver not compatible with DF?

Could be the driver version, video card, and monitors that are hooked up. Are you hooking the laptop up to the same display that's failing from your desktop?

This issue has improved with newer versions of DisplayFusion and nVidia drivers, but now I can pinpoint a specific problem. Maybe you can help me fix it.

I have (amongst others) 2 profiles:
  • 1 - Dell: 1 HD diplay
  • 2 - Extended: 1 HD display extended to a 720p TV (with resized desktop to compensate for the over/underscan)

When I switch from profile 2 to 1: no problem
But when I switch back from profile 1 to 2: the incorrect mode is set (interlaced vs progressive)
Each time I have to go into the nVidia control panel and switch from 1080i to 1080p

Is there a way to force 1080p?

Can you reproduce this again, but instead try to set it to 1080p using the Windows Screen Resolution settings, instead of the NVIDIA Control Panel? Just wondering if the NVIDIA Control Panel might be doing something extra that we can't do through the Windows API.

I tried your suggestion, but the problem remains.
It's actually another result:

upper screenshot: I set the desired resolution to the custom resolution (1804*1014). I save the profile

I switch to profile 1.
I switch back to profile 2.

lower screenshot: Now the custom resolution (1804*1014) isn't even listed and a completely different resolution is picked. Yet it is also an interlaced mode.

Ah, I see! DisplayFusion likely can't set those custom resolutions :(

Have you tried adjusting the scaling settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel, instead of using a custom resolution? You can do this on the "Adjust Desktop Size and Position page" in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

In fact I'm not using a custom resolution, but I'm using the "Adjust Desktop Size and Position" option in the nVidia control panel.

It seems I can't define a custom resolution. The button is greyed out.

And even if I could, I also want to clone the desktop on the TV. With a custom resolution on the TV, the desktop wouldn't be fullscreen on my Dell monitor. Scaling up to fullscreen would blur the image.

Cloning is working now, but after switching to the single monitor profile, I always have to go into the nVidia control panel and set it to the 1080p mode.

edit: I see in order to enable custom resolutions, I have to turn off Dynamic Super Resolution factors. I'm not using DSR but as I mentioned above, cloning a custom resolution will bring a new set of problems

Ok, I'm not sure if this question got fully answered (I don't think I worded it correctly in the first place):

When you're on profile 1, if you try to enable the 720p TV using the Windows Screen Resolution settings, instead of the NVIDIA Control Panel or DisplayFusion, does it work, or does it also go interlaced?

It's been a long time since I did a follow up on this thread and it's mainly due to the fact I'm not having this problem anymore.

When I install a new Nvidia driver update, I need to reconfigure the "Adjust Desktop Size and Position" option in the nVidia control panel, but after that Displayfusing is working as expected. I don't know if it's caused by an Nvidia driver or a Displayfusion update, but they're playing nice for now.

So, for me the problem has been solved, so you may close this thread.

Thank you for your great software and support.
