I've searched this issue on the forums and found that it was supposed to be resolved in a version a lot newer, roughly v2 beta.
However I'm running v5.1.1 and still experience this issue. Is there an option to lock the position or order of the taskbar icons on both monitors?

Cheers

Could you describe the usage case a bit more? We fixed an issue where the taskbar buttons would lose their order when DisplayFusion was restarted, but there aren't currently any features that lock button orders between restarts of the other programs.

Thanks!

The issue seems to happen when I unlock the computer, but has also happened at random occasions.

Ok, that's interesting! Does it happen every time you unlock the machine, or only occasionally?

Thanks!

It's weird, When I unlock my desktop the Display Fusion taskbar disappears and reappears almost like it is being re-rendered, this causes the icons to jump around and change positions.

It is normal for the taskbar to reload after unlocking the computer, but it should definitely be saving the button positions when it does that. Could you check the registry to see if the button positions are getting saved? They should be in the following location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion\Taskbars\#\ButtonOrder

I am currently using a laptop, and should be moving to a desktop soon. I will report back if the issue follows the desktop install.
Cheers

Hi. I to am having this issue with v5.1.1. I bought DisplayFusion from the recent Steam sales.

My icons are being reset whenever I logout, restart Windows or restart DisplayFusion.

I've noticed that the icon order in the "Multi-Monitor Taskbar -> Shortcuts -> Edit Shortcuts" window is REVERSE to the order they are shown in. Clicking "Save" on that window, therefore updates the icons to the reverse order. Opening the Edit Shortcuts window again, shows them back in the first order and clicking "Save" moves them again.

The ButtonOrder registry key only has the values for 2 of the 3 icons I have (no idea which 2 though because of the numeric data). It eventually shows all 3 but I have no idea when it actually updates to save the new icons.

It seems to be saving the initial order of the icons when if first... recognises them? Thereby causing the icons to be reset when you start the program again.

I've attached 2 screenshots. They show successive displays of the "Edit Shortcuts" window and the taskbar icons. I have not changed the order of the icons or touched any other settings. All I have done is bring up the "Edit Shortcuts" window, click save and bring up the window again. I do have a third screenshot which show exactly the same as the first one.

As for the ButtonOrder key in the registry. Once the icon is saved in the registry, nothing I do makes it update. That includes moving them manually, saving the "Edit Shortcuts" window and using the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons in the "Edit Shortcuts" window.

Hope this helps.

I haven't been able to reproduce this issue here. Do you run DisplayFusion under a user account with administrative privileges on your machine?

Yes, it's running under Windows 7 x64 with an Administrator account and User Account Control turned off.

One thing I just noticed in the screenshot, that I wanted to clarify before I test it out again. Do you have your taskbar buttons aligned to the right side of the taskbar, instead of the default left side?

Yes, they are aligned to the right. The monitor is to the left of my main one so it makes sense to me to have them aligned to the right.

One other thing I just noticed is that each time I restart my computer, the icons actually reverse positions. I never noticed this before because I would re-arrange them each time I restarted. When the computer booted next they were back to the original position. I decided to just restart without re-arranging the icons at all and sure enough they were reversed into the correct order upon next boot.

Edit: The configuration for the taskbar is "Show Desktop" = Disabled, "Start Button" = Disabled, "Button Alignment" = Right. I also have a third monitor to the right that has "Button Alignment" = Left if that makes a difference.

Doing some more testing and it only appears to happen when the taskbar icons are aligned to the right. It appears that when they are aligned to the right, they are reversed in order when displayed. The problem is the software doesn't register that they are displayed in the reverse order so they switch order when the settings are changed or the program is restarted.

Has there been any updates on this yet?

It can be annoying when the application order is different on the Windows taskbar, and DF doesn't mimic these settings, and often lose sight where the shortcuts are.

I'm sure there are several others posts, but this seems like the most recent:

The pinned shortcuts shouldn't reverse their order any more, that was a bug we fixed up a while ago. If you're just looking for a new taskbar mode that duplicates the Windows taskbar exactly, including the button order, that's on our feature request list. No ETA yet, but we'll definitely let you know when we're able to implement it.

Thanks!
