Hey all,

Updated to 7.2 a couple days ago on Steam. Since doing so every ~5ish mins, while playing TESO or a video in VLC my Windows cursor will flash up for a split second. During this time it means the game loses focus and I lose control of my character. In other games like Race the Sun and Dirty Bomb it just flat out minimises the game. Consistently if DisplayFusion is open this will happen and if it's closed it will not. It only seemed to start happening after I installed 7.2. I would LOVE to simply downgrade back to 7.1 again, until this issue is resolved, but I own the Steam version so I don't think I can.

Any help would be appreciated. At the moment I need to keep closing DisplayFusion which is a pain as it means it's not there when I need it.

It sounds like you're using "Multi-Monitor Taskbars" and the option for "Allow taskbar reloading while full screen applications are running." is checked.
I would advise that you see if that option is checked, and if it is then trying unchecking it and see what happens.

The reason I suspect this is 1. You say it happens at regular intervals and 2. You said you are always using a full screen application when it happens.

I checked that setting. I'm afraid it is off.

Interestingly before I went to bed last night I noticed that the whole "full screen" thing wasn't essential to the issue. I was typing a comment on reddit in Firefox and I noticed the cursor would blink and it would miss a character or two for a moment while I was typing. Seems it can happen at any time.

I'd like to know what the problem is, but in the mean time I emailed the support and they were awesome in linking me to a download of 7.1 and letting me modify my Steam key to work with it. I will try downgrading and see if the problem goes away for now.

Edit: While typing this post itself I got to the last sentence and it happened again. The taskbar on my main monitor (so the Windows one) blinked for a moment and it missed a letter as I was typing.

Hmm. So I was having this issue on Windows 7 when I upgraded to v7.2. I then upgraded to Windows 10 and the problem was still there. Hoping downgrading DF to v7.1 would fix the issue I tried that. But now I'm experiencing a new problem. This is what my DF taskbar looks like:

Aside from it being illegible, it should probably also be noted that on my Windows task bar on my main monitor I only actually have two windows open. Does 7.1 just plain not work with Windows 10?

7.1 was released back in January and is unfortunately not compatible with Windows 10 :(

Is the focus stealing issue still there in 7.1 though? Does it seem to happen when the wallpaper changes?

Ok, so I did some testing. The problem still exists in 7.1 HOWEVER you're spot on. It's cause by the wallpaper changing!

I hope that help diagnose the problem. Without fail whatever I'm doing will lose focus for a moment then within half a second my wallpaper will change.

Ok, could you attach a copy of your troubleshooting info?
  • Open the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the Copy to Clipboard button
  • Open Notepad, paste the text, and save the file
  • Reply with the text file attached

In the Settings > Advanced Settings, could you try enabling the "Wallpaper > Use internal processing" option to see if that makes any difference?

Should you ever find yourself in Perth, Western Australia you sir have earned yourself a beer.

That appears to have done it.

Is that setting usually on by default? If not is it strange that I appear to be the only one complaining about this issue? I'm a computer technician by trade so I'm generally pretty good at diagnosing an issue such as this, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it just started happening suddenly. If the setting is typically on by default then I can relax assuming it just somehow magically got toggled by some windows process. If not I can't think of anything that would make my computer or Windows set up atypical to the point that I would be having the problem and no one else seems to.

Oh well. Just so glad I can now play my games without having to compromise between exiting your (otherwise) fucking amazing program or dealing with my game minimising every 5minutes.

Glad to hear that fixed it! At some point in my lifetime I plan to head down under to attend a V8 Supercars race, so I'll hit you up for the free beer then ;)

That setting is disabled by default. My guess would be that it's a conflict with another program, or maybe the display drivers, but to be totally honest, I really have no idea :(
