I'm experiencing problems with Windows 8.1... the wallpaper just wouldn't set when I click "apply"
I tinkered around in the settings and found out that turning off "transitions" resolves the issue.
Deleting the file as discribed above doesn't work for me to use transitions.
Glad it's working now, but I liked the transitions in Windows 7.

Just wanted to let you know for optimizing DF for Windows 8.1

@wouter: Is this issue occurring with DisplayFusion 5.1 or 5.1.1?

In both actually... I reinstalled DF to revert to default settings in order to troubleshoot the issue.
Didn't work in 5.1, so I update to 5.1.1, didn't work either.

Then I found this thread en turned the option off.

To make it completely clear: In my case, while the transition option was on, the wallpaper wouldn't even change

Ok, could you update to 5.1.1 again if you haven't already, and then do the following?
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Detailed) and click Apply
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • Enable transitions
  • Set the wallpaper to change every minute, then apply the settings and let it sit for 5 minutes
  • Attach the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file to this topic (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending me the log

Thanks!

I followed your instructions and attached the log file.
The wallpaper didn't change once during the timespan.

Hope you can find the cause.

Thanks guys! We'll let you know as soon as we have a solution to this issue. In the meantime, please disable the transitions as a workaround.

Thanks!

We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version and this issue should hopefully be all fixed up. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.

Thanks!

I'm afraid not... not on my system that is. I'm on Windows 8.1.

Installed v6.0 (Beta 5), enabled transitions in the options, restarted DF... wallpaper doesn't change automatically, also doesn't manually.

Ok, would you be able to attach a debug log with transitions enabled?
  • Enable debug logging on the Troubleshooting tab (set it to Logging: Important Only) and click Apply
  • Restart your computer
  • Set the wallpaper to 1 minute interval and wait a few minutes after closing the Wallpaper window (please note the time so I'll know where to look in the log file)
  • Attach the %appdata%\DisplayFusion\DisplayFusion.log file to this topic (can be found by clicking the 'Open Log' button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending me the log

Thanks!

Ok, thanks! The issue now is definitely related to some of the changes we made for Beta 5, so we're going to have another look at it, and hopefully have it fixed up for Beta 6 :)

After a fresh reboot of your system, does the wallpaper change correctly, or is it broken as soon as the system starts up? Could you also post a copy of the info from the Settings > Troubleshooting tab? (make sure debug logging is enabled and applied before refreshing and copying the Troubleshooting info)

Not sure what you mean by "the info from the Settings > Troubleshooting tab".

I made another log file. Pressed apply 2 times.

Sorry, to clarify, here are the steps for the Troubleshooting info:
  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Copy to Clipboard" button
  • Paste it into Notepad, save it, and attach it here

Thanks!

Thanks! And to clarify, does the wallpaper work for a while on a fresh reboot, and then stop working, or is it immediately not working on bootup?

Logging off and on again sets the new wallpaper, rebooting also.

Ok, would you be able to try enabling the Wallpaper > Generate Smaller Files option in the Settings > Advanced Settings window, then reboot your machine and see if the wallpaper stops changing after a while again?

Did it... Now it doesn't even change after the reboot.

Ok, could you check a Windows setting to see if it's enabled or disabled? Here are the steps:
  • Open Control Panel > Ease of Access Center
  • Click the "Make the computer easier to see" link under "Explore all settings"
  • Scroll down to the "Turn off all unnecessary animations" option, if it's on, disable it

Please let me know how that works out and we'll go from there :)

Thanks!

That seem to do the trick...

I did a manual change by pressing "apply" on the "Desktop Wallpaper" window and the transition was smooth like it should be.

Note: I upgraded to Beta 7 and turned "Wallpaper > Generate Smaller Files option in the Settings > Advanced Settings" back OFF.
