There was an update yesterday, so it's currently broken.

I'll attach a screenshot of it before I manually fix it, but I'm pretty sure that it will look the same after I pin and un-pin the app.

The DebugInfo zip I attached before was when it was working, I'm attaching another one here from before I fix it.

Could you send a screenshot of the

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Discord

folder when it's working, then next time the shortcut doesn't work, send a new screenshot of that folder?

I was deciding between posting a new thread and necro-ing this one, so if you want me to make a thread, let me know.

But yeah, this is still consistently not working. Every time Discord updates, my side-monitor taskbar breaks and I have to unpin the old Discord shortcut and re-pin the new one.

I don't know how this is supposed to be working, but every time I can remember updating Discord, it breaks my pins.

We've made a couple of changes for the shortcut pinning in 11.2 Beta 6. Could you try updating and let us know if you still run into this issue?

Ok great, thanks for confirming! Just wanted to make sure we found the correct root cause for the ticket. At first glance, I'm not sure how we'll work around that but we'll definitely let you know if we find a solution

Thanks! I think DF maybe isn't seeing that it needs to update the path because the old path is still there, even though Discord has updated to a newer path.

I didn't fix the shortcut in case anything further was needed. I followed the steps.

Yeah I'm right click pinning it on the df taskbar.

My discord is currently in C:\Users\Emil\AppData\Local\Discord\app-1.0.9183

I've tried opening the properties of the discord start menu shortcut, and I do notice it seems to be different, not sure if this could be relevant.

start in: C:\Users\Emil\AppData\Local\Discord\app-1.0.9183

While DF's taskbar shortcut is like Application: C:\Users\Emil\AppData\Local\Discord\app-1.0.9170\Discord.exe

Hello,
I repinned it on the DF taskbar, and discord updated today.
The pin doesn't auto update, I closed discord and checked for any discord.exe in task manager.
Tried pressing the discord pin on DF taskbar with nothing happening.
Tried opening via windows taskbar, no change to pin.
Tried opening via startmenu, no change to pin.

How long ago did you create this shortcut? If it was a while ago, could you try unpinning it and pinning a new one? Whenever we added the fix for auto-updating the path, I think it required the pinned shortcut to be removed and re-created before it would start working.

A few months ago, I discovered (by accident) that there is a very simple way to update the taskbar icon.

This issue is caused by the main taskbar still being managed by Windows, and still being the primary focus of opening programs, such as in this case-
Updating discord from within the client ALSO seems to cause the duplicate icon to appear, however both are solved by simply clicking the Display Fusion icon already present (inactive), which seemingly updates / corrects the shortcut to the updated version of the client.

Sorry for a bit of a gravedig here.
This doesn't seem to work for me, whether I click the DF pinned icon while the new discord is open or not. Just nothing happens.
Though perhaps you mean you press it after manually editing the path to the new exe?

I'm on 11.0.5

Yeah that makes sense. DisplayFusion can't always auto-detect that the pinned icon needs a path update so it does it on launch.

Interesting! I was able to reproduce it here by doing the following:

Exit Discord
Launch Discord from Start menu
Discord updated, and the DF pinned item still has the old path, so doesn't combine

But, if I then fully exited Discord, then launched from the DF pinned item, the DF pinned item updated its path correctly and everything is good. So it seems like our code for updating the pinned item path just needs to be triggered in another spot. We'll see what we can do
