Elevation is needed to add titlebar buttons, or run functions/triggers on other elevated windows. Non-elevated windows should run fine though.

I mean, if I simply can't run the installer, then what can I do manually to replicate what the installer is doing? For example, I checked my old system and see there is a DF service that I can install manually:

Maybe there are DLLs I need to register?

Also, is elevation only needed for the install or is it needed to run DF? Some features that require elevation to run won't work, like:

- Functions/titlebar buttons/Triggers won't work on elevated windows (if you have other windows that run as administrator)
- Windows Lock Screen image
- Desktop context menu entries for DisplayFusion

As a workaround, I'm skipping the installer and just using the zip package.

One issue was when I tried to do a restore from the DF backup file, it needed admin rights for DF. Workaround was to export the DF configuration as a REG file, get admin rights to cmd, and then import the REG. Not sure if restoring from REG is the same as restoring from DF backup file.

What DF functionality is missing by not going through the installer? Is there documentation on how to install DF components manually? ]]>
