No, there's no actual bug that I'm referencing. But since this is unwanted behavior I'm classifying it as a bug. I don't know if it's DisplayFusion, OneDrive, or something else causing it, which is why I posted here to see if I can narrow it down. Since DisplayFusion controls the wallpaper on my device, it's the obvious choice for a culprit.

Let me see about disabling the wallpaper system in DisplayFusion and see if it occurs with Microosft controlling the wallpapers.

Sorry that was an unfortunate typo on my part! You're correct, it would be %localappdata%\DisplayFusion and it's good that you can see the images there. You mentioned the images returning to the documents folder from a bug, which bug are you referring to? Do you know what's causing the images to be put back into the documents folder? Thanks!

I don't see anything in

%TEMP%

related to DisplayFusion.

I see the generated files there. As for the ones in Documents folder, they do go away if I delete them, and only return when the bug happens. Hilariously enough, looking through the file, I can see "versions" of it in my file history.

This is very strange, if you open this folder what do you see:

%temp%\AppData\Local\DisplayFusion

This is where the generated images should be. In your documents folder are the images there new? What happens if you delete them?

Mmm, Site seems to be having issues, since it's taking a long time to post, and double posted.

I digress, I will note that it's not every time the wallpaper changes that it ends up in the pictures folder. I just changed the wallpaper now and didn't see a new one generated. The process monitor logs also don't show anything wonky, but I suspect I'd have to catch the bug in the act as it occurs.

I have DisplayFusion setup to rotate wallpapers once an hour I believe, so not sure how often it sees the bug.

I do have stuff being backed up automatically, but only in protected folders. That does not include appdata. I'd have to maybe use process explorer to see if OneDrive touches anything in the appdata folder when DisplayFusion makes the changes.

Thanks for sending that over. It looks like you have the images being pulled from your OneDrive. Do you have a setting to backup files automatically?

DisplayFusion creates the saved image into the AppData folder, but it should be getting deleted when it creates a new one. I wonder if OneDrive is backing it up when it gets created.

Weird, my edit didn't save. I'd like to mention I think it happens when I switch monitor profiles. I can see composites for when I'm in the 2 monitor mode, and 3 monitor mode.

Open the DisplayFusion Settings > Troubleshooting tab
Click the "Export Info to File" button

Composite Wallpaper Image saving into Pictures Folder

I'm not sure what exactly is the cause of this, but I've noticed that I seem to get a lot of composite wallpaper images (all 3 monitor wallpapers combined into one image) saving into my pictures folder. I assume it's display fusion doing it, because it is the one app that is in control of my wallpapers. But it could also be something windows is doing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I noticed it happening on Windows 10, but never got around to troubleshooting until now.

Windows 11 25H2 (26200.6899)
DisplayFusion
