UPDATE #2: The problem occurs much less often and much less noticeably when I enable Windows 7 Aero. If I weren't looking for the problem I might not even notice it.

FYI, I don't generally use Aero because I'm much more into functionality than aesthetics. I have some trouble justifying the allocation of computing power, and related costs, to eye candy that does little, IMO, to improve usability.

FYI, I have a SSD on C: so I generally install programs on E:, where there's more free space. I hadn't noticed the special permissions extended on C: to TrustedInstaller.

After an uninstall from E: and re-install on C: the problem persists. But I can offer a working hypothesis. The Start menu acts as though the mouse is being clicked multiple times rather than only once. I'm using a wireless mouse and wonder if it's sending weird click or movement messages that confuse DF. I'll try to round up a wired mouse and see if that helps.

UPDATE: It occurred to me that CTRL+ESC should launch the Start menu without involving the mouse. I tried that shortcut and see the same bad behavior. The Start menu flickers and tends to go away rather than stay around waiting for me to click a menu item. I can enter the shortcut several times and generally manage to get a working Start menu, especially if I release the keys quickly. I noticed, by the way, that the Chrome browser window (I'm using Chrome to post to the forum) flickers while the Start menu flickers. Then I opened a few more windows and clicked Start. They all began flickering and I almost lost control of the system. It was several minutes before I managed after persistent attempts to access the system tray and quit DF. So this problem is indeed a complete show stopper for me. I'm at least glad that no one else seems to be affected by it.

If there's anything else I can try I'm game to do so. Otherwise I'll uninstall DF for now and try again when it's updated, just in case an update resolves my problem.

Thanks for the help. Cheers,

Thanks for trying out DisplayFusion! We've never run into this issue before. The only thing out of the ordinary in your Troubleshooting info is that you have DisplayFusion installed on the E: drive. For it to have the proper permissions, it should be installed in to C:\Program Files (x86)

Could you try uninstalling and reinstalling it to there to see if that makes any difference? When you do the uninstall, answer "No" to the "Complete uninstall" question, so that it will keep the trial key on your system. If you do lose the trial key, just let me know and I'll send another one
I downloaded DF last night on a try-before-buy. I'm having several video problems. The most troublesome problem pertains to the Start Menu. I did a quick discussion search but ended up with a haystack, within which I couldn't find a report of a similar problem.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro x64, fully updated. When I click the Start button I get a flickering white rectangle similar in shape to the Start menu. The rectangle flickers on and off several times and then disappears. I don't actually see the Start menu. If I click several times in rapid succession and stop clicking at the right instant, I can obtain a functional Start menu. As an example of the other problems I mention sometimes an opening window will similarly flicker and never settle in properly. I suppose that most or all of the problems I'm seeing are related to a single, common cause.

My graphics adapter is an AMD Radeon HD 6450 running with Driver 9.012 and Catalyst 13.1. The 2D driver version is 8.01. My primary monitor is a VE247 connected via DVI. The secondary is an S271HL connected via HDMI.

I've attached DebugInfo.txt and DisplayFusion.log, for access by moderators only.

Thanks for any suggestions or assistance. I'm generally pleased with DF. But this problem in particular (and other problems that I suspect are related and will resolve along with this problem) is a show stopper for me.

Cheers.+
