TIP: Increase the size of the system restore area. You might be able to go back to a restore point next time instead of reinstalling Windows 7 (as I also had to do when my first attempt went wonky). Good luck!

I think you are completely correct, .NET framework had to be the problem. I finally got fed up with the issue and for some reason I was getting alot of BSODs as well. I suspect that .NET framework issues may have also been to blame for the stability issues. So I wiped my Win 7 image and started from scratch again (It's a shame to, I was almost up to 100% with over 100 of my applications installed).

However the good news is that DisplayFusion works fine on the fresh install and It seems more stable than the previous image ever was. I will need to be more careful as I move through adding my other software and see if it is a particular application or driver that might have caused the issue to begin with. The fun of creating a fresh image with a new O/S.

@tlwaltz -

I too have transitioned from Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 putting it on a new drive*, later copying the documents over. I installed everything I needed, including MS Office and Visual Studio 2008. Last, and after everything else worked, I installed luxury items like DF. DF works just fine (except for a bug I uncovered), including showing the task bars.

Here's a suggestion:
1) Reboot into safe mode.
2) Try to run DF.
3) If it comes up, go into DF settings.
4) Click troubleshooting.
5) Click Enable debug logging.
6) Click "Open Log Location" and note the directory.
7) Reboot.
8 ) If DF fails in normal mode, wait a few minutes and attach the DisplayFusion.log file to this problem report.

If you cannot run DF in safe mode, Jon will probably have to give you a registry setting to enable debug logging.

PS: Recheck that you have all updates installed, includingupdates for MS products. MS product updates are not on by default, but fiddling around in updates I am sure you'll find the setting (else Google it).

-------------
(*) Unfortunately, when I did this I put my Vista drive as a second drive on the system. Windows 7 trashed to security attributes on the Vista drive and rendered it unbootable. Then it self-destructed, which is another story. The second fresh install of Windows 7 worked fine...

I just installed a brand new hard drive with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit and have been unable to get Display Fusion to function. I have all of the Windows updates and everything else appears to be running smoothly. The Display Fusion start bar doesn't show up on my second monitor after boot-up and it's not accessible via the right side of the Windows start bar menu when I extend it. Nor does the software come up or respond when I try to use the icon. If I attempt to run it by doing a right click and "run as administrator" it immediately comes up with a message that says "Display Fusion has stopped working".

I have tried multiple uninstalls and re-installs, and even tried few different older versions. I have also tried uninstalling and resinstalling the Microsoft .NET framework. None of those methods resulted in any different behavior. The software works fine on the same machine when I boot up on my Vista 32 Bit hard drive.

I purchased the Pro license earlier this year and it has proved to be one of my favorite utilities, I use it's functions constantly. Can anyone help me figure this out?
