It does now, just takes a moment. (FWIW if the Windows setting could be locked to span we wouldn't even get a moment of ugly tiling going on, but hey, this is great already!)

I just recently got a Win8.1 tablet/hybrid, and want to use this fine program with it since it has given me so much pleasure on my desktop for getting on years already.

However there's been a slight catch I've run into: Whenever I change the orientation of the table the images can get a bit out of hand. If I've used the tablet in landscape mode and switch to portrait, the image is tiled in a really ugly manner. If though I don't use DisplayFusion's wallpaper functionality, but use Windows' own shuffle system, then I can avoid problems easily by just selecting "Span" (which I think is closest to our "Fit best and maintain aspect ratio (clip edges)"), in which case the whole landscape image (well, most of it anyway) is shown when in landscape mode and the middle portion when in portrait, no tiling.

I think the problem could be mostly solved if Windows' wallpaper setting could be kept at "span" when DisplayFusion is handling the wallpaper changes, but currently the program always sets the Windows setting to "tile" whenever the wallpaper is changed. I can actually get it to work for a moment by refreshing the wallpaper with DisplayFusion, then going to Personalize -> Background and selecting "span", which makes the wallpaper behave more sensibly during orientation changes, but it only works until the wallpaper is changed the next time.

Off the top of my head I can see two solutions: 1) Make it possible to keep the Windows setting in "span" instead of forcing it to tile (I can handle the image getting a bit zoomed in when in portrait, since the screen isn't that big), or 2) make DisplayFusion notice when the orientation changes and update the picture accordingly. I think 1) is possibly easier and less resource intensive.
