Unfortunately, this isn't possible, but as long as you have "Windows Snapping" enabled, you should be able to drag the window to the side/top of the split to get it to maximize to that split.

I have it set to show slices when dragging a window but I notice that the slice the window already on is ignored. Can that be disabled? Allowing a window to react to the slice it's over will allow a window to be expanded/re-expanded to fill the slice. A common scenario is that a new window is created over a slice but for me to make it fill a slice, I have to drag it to another slice and then back again.
