You're right, I am using the Windows Aero icons, and not the XP ones. Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, I can use the Win XP icons, but when a window or app is inactive, the icon colour does not invert, so the result is one cannot see the icon. For example, if I choose the white flat XP icon, then it won't show up when the windows/app is inactive, because the titlebar is white in the inactive state. Conversely, if I choose the black flat XP icon, it shows up in the inactive window/app, but not when the window/app is active. So, I have to use the Aero buttons instead. It's ok, but none of the icons really integrate well with the Windows 10 design (i.e., they don't look native to the OS.)

I could create my own icons (I haven't tried this yet), but I would run into the same problem with the icons not inverting in colour.

Alternatively, if you had a way for DisplayFusion to let a user choose custom icons for active and inactive states, this might solve the problem. Note that this feature would only apply to custom icons, and not the aero and XP icons, because it's unecessary.

The TitleBar Buttons in your screenshots look like the Windows Aero ones, not the Windows XP ones which are just flat. Regarding inverting the colours automatically, that's still on our list to implement :)

Just found this discussion only today. Your last posting was about a year ago. Just adding my 2 cents to this discussion.

Would it still be possible for you to invert the colours of the titlebar buttons? See screenshot below. The minimize, restore/max and close buttons invert when switching from active/inactive.

I am using the Windows XP icons, and yes they do show up.

Just wondering, would it be possible for your team to design and provide Windows 10 style titlebar icons with the clean minimalist look as suggested previously by others? Sorry, I'm just being a nitpicky user :-D Perhaps you know something I don't, and this is a "do-nothing", especially if Microsoft is phasing in their fluent design to Windows 10. I don't see fluent applied to the titlebars in some apps and folder windows in the fall creators update, but maybe they will in the next update??? Any news on that front?

We'll be sure to let you know if/when we're able to implement that.

Regarding adding Compatibility rules for Universal apps, they all run in a container process, ApplicationFrameHost.exe. So, if you add a rule for that process, it will affect all Universal apps. There isn't currently a way to differentiate them.

That's what I'm using, tried them all, but they're fairly difficult to see even at 4K. Having the ability to change the icon colors would be nice.

3 icons will appear. Click the edit button which is the leftmost one.

There you can change how the icon appears and which theme you want to use. Windows 8 defaults to the "Windows XP - dark" theme, you probably want to change it to the light version.
