One of the suspect items was DisplayFusion just prior to these lock ups. But there were other possible problems as well. Strangely even after DisplayFusion was completely uninstalled the Event Viewer still identified DF in some of the freezing events.

Our next step is to completely reinstall Windows 7. We'll also check the drives and main system board. It just isn't clear yet at this point what the source of this problem is.

There's no apparent pattern. I will try exiting and running without it to see if the problems continue. This will require me to configure the monitors with NVidea however... which stymied me initially. I've also considered uninstalling DisplayFusion completely for a while to see if that has any effect.

I'm running a 64-bit Windows 7 system with two monitors on a NVidea GeForce GTX 560 Ti video board. There's no apparent reason for the lockups and no way to reproduce them. Both monitors are using a spanned background image. What finally convinced me that something in the video system is causing the problem is that today I was prevented from moving the cursor from one screen to the other. Sure would like to see a fix to this because setup with DisplayFusion is so much simpler than using the NVidea software. ]]>
