Well, I think you did too :-D - Tried the new beta and it works like a charm.
Went through the same steps as before and can't make it fail -iow - the HookManager window is no longer visible
with the options enabled.
There's a slight flash when I enable an option and click Apply,
but the HM window does not become visible anymore.

At least now I'm able to enjoy all the functions again.

Very useful.I used to use WinSpy, but this one is much better.

To be sure, the incidents of the window popping up are less now,
but still involve the following settings -any one of them:
Enable Taskbar Buttons.
Enable Windows Snapping
Enable maximized window dragging
Enable middle click window moving

Under Troubleshooting
Enable global mouse hooks
Enable global application hooks

But my latest tests showed it to be inconsistent.(with the beta version)
e.g. Screenshots were taken with the HookManager window showing.
After the second shot it disappeared and sofar hasn't come back.
I've att'd 2 screenshots - hope that's what you were after.

To physically show that window for yourself,you could try Fabertoys http://www.faberbox.com/fabertoys.asp
and Windows Explorer section
http://www.faberbox.com/products/fabertoys/images/windowsexplorerbig.png
When in that section you can tick the box to make the window visible.
Initially it will show the existing state, which in my case was "visible".
Unticking it , will make the window disappear,but if the program or other interference
insists on it being visible, the window will re-appear as soon as FaberToys is closed.

However,sofar so good;)

I'll keep you posted on further developments.

Thanks for posting the beta, but unfortunately still no luck.
Anywhere the hookmanager is involved , the manager "window" will be visible.
Mind you,that's on my main system.Will try on some other ones when I get to them.

Yes, it's all blank and just grey - on a screen 1024 X 768 it's
approx 300 X 300 pixels .Oh,yes, it happens all the time as soon as I enable any function that deploys the Hook Manager.
It can't be moved, unless I do it via FaberToys , nor can it be deleted,
unless I disable all features that use the Hook Manager.

Again ,via Fabertoys, I can set this "window" to Normal (300 X 300)
minimize it or even make it full screen, as well as hide it by unticking the visibility box.
But this only lasts while in FaberToys.Once I close FT ,it's back unless
I disable the Hook Manager or rather, not deploy it.

Do you happen to know where I could find this "window" and its properties,
like position, size and visibility in the Windows Registry?
Maybe I could manually change its properties.

BTW, this is not dependent on this particular version of XP I'm testing this on.
I used it on a variety of XP installs,but with one thing in common - the Radeon 9000 Pro video card and HydraVision.
The previous version of DF that I used,did not show these symptoms.

Running DF on an older system ,
XP Pro, Radeon 9000 Pro HydraVision v3.25
Updated from DF v3.06 to v 3.1.2

Since then, any function that involves the Hook Manager ,will
bring up a little grey "window" ,which cannot be removed,
unless I disable functions like Window Snapping, Title bar buttons etc.

Not knowing what caused this, I initially used FaberToys to see what this grey square was all about.
Found it was the Hook Manager.
It seems that this "panel" is set to be visible by default.
I can temporarily untick the visibility via Fabertoys,but it'll come back
when I close FT.

Could you check in your code if there is something there that causes the Hook Manager panel to be visible?
Normally. processes like that are not visible and run in the background and can only be spotted with some tools
like Simple WinSpy and others incl. FaberToys.
