Well, sometimes the simplest solutions are the best. I was fed up with Windows arbitrarily messing the numbering of my external monitors everytime I undocked/docked the laptop to the eGPU, or just restarting. In the end it was hopeless modifying every time the Displayfusion profiles. The mess was mainly the 2 monitors connected to the internal Intel GPU. I just doubled the number of my profiles, renamed them and now every time I restart, Displayfusion will recognize the Profile X v1 or v2 depending on which sequence the monitors are numbered by windows.

As I explained in my previous post, monitors 4,5,6,7 attached at the eGPU stay the same. Monitor 1 is the laptop monitor which I keep disabled when I have it docked. Monitors 2,3 are attached to the dock-Intel iGPU and from time to time switch numbers and create a mess with my profiles. I figured out that shutting down and then booting up again resolves the normal numbers. If I restart or, start after hibernation the numbers sometimes switch. If I unplug and plug again most of the time it is ok. So the problem has to do with the sequence that the Intel iGPU reads the monitor while booting. It is certainly a Windows issue, but would make so much easier if I could just assign the monitors to an existing profile and correct quickly the issue when it happens.

So when I restart windows it messes up and inverses the numbers of the 2 monitors plugged to the integrated laptop Intel GPU. The rest of the monitors plugged to the eGPU have no issue. In order to correct it I have to shut down and then restart. Same mess if I get out of hibernation. Needless to say,the Displayfusion monitor configs get messed up too. It would be nice if we could just modify manually the numbers in the DisplauFusion monitor config and make them correspond the new windows numbers. Out of the 6 monitors I have only to inverse 2 and then my profiles will be functioning again without having either to shut down and restart, or reconfigure the 7-8 monitor profiles.

It's very annoying. I'm sure it's mostly the shortcomings of how Windows handles the identification of monitors. But is there really no way to avoid the Monitor Profile feature breaking completely every time a monitor is unplugged? I find myself struggling with this more and more, and I'm at the point where I'll start looking for alternative solutions. It feels like something changed when DF got a visual overhaul, but I could be wrong.

If it's possible, the ideal solution would be to simply assign the new monitors to existing profiles. It should be as automatic as possible, or require very little effort to "repair" the broken profiles.

(Maybe I'm a particularly weird case, since my TV is connected to my computer in another room. This makes it hard to edit the profiles, since I have to walk back and forth because I can't save a "TV Only" profile without the TV being the only active monitor.)

So I had the problem re-appear and was getting frustrating having to recreate all the profiles every time I was docking and then undocking the laptop. For other users that might face the same issue I found the problem. This new laptop has 2 Thunderbolt ports. Strangely enough if I was using the 2nd one the configurations were lost. I saw this also with one external display port monitor, plugging it in the 2nd port, the config was no longer recognized. So if after undocking and docking back again you cannot apply your monitor profiles, just try to plug in other thunderbolt port

I had plugged the computer to a different set of monitors. I think somehow windows must have changed a monitor number after I plugged to the desk configuration and this messed up all the saved configs. I had to redo them and save them again. I guess there is no easy way to make a quick modification in the config file (change the monitor number for instance) for cases like this.
