Kudos to you Kilmatead,
This comment sounded like crazy talk, "waltzing through molasses wearing ill-fitting boots" but now I have to agree totally

I just did not think to turn off that aspect of Aero. I did notice the titlebar buttons showing up briefly before the window got there but it didn't stand out too much after awhile. The one thing that DID bother me was that when you minimize a window on the DF Taskbar, the minimize animation always looks as if it is minimizing to the main taskbar and so misleads the eye... or at least my eyes enough to bug me. Disabling the window animations as you suggested makes the interface seem easily twice as snappy, no more misleading minimize animation, and the buttons and the windows are hitting the screen at the same time. Bliss.

Thanks again for the suggestion,
It was just a thought. I used to like it at first too, until I realised it was rather like waltzing through molasses wearing ill-fitting boots. And that's on a fast PC, so I shudder to think what happens on older hardware. After awhile one doesn't even notice it missing, with the rest of Aero happily intact - and DF's buttons being none-the-wiser.

Don't quite know how to say this without sounding like a smart-arse, but i think this is actually a bug being reported...

Win 7, 64bit, Aero enabled: There is a small animation that occurs when a window is opened. Your buttons appear instantly and *then* the window appears. Probably could do with a wait of a few ms before showing them.

It's easier to see if you open a window over a light background...

Cheers,
