This makes Alt+Tab functionality very difficult, because the last two items are tyically displayed outside the screen.

It would be nice if in such cases DF would automatically switch to a list of windows without thumbnails, or at least have an option to always display this list instead of thumbnails. In a way, this is similar to an already available option ("Show window text below each Alt+Tab item"), except that the Alt+Tab item (i.e. thumbnail) should be hidden to save space.
