It does seem related to the setting that automatically picks the aero color from the wallpaper.
Disabling that option in both the Windows settings and DisplayFusion settings fixes the freeze for me.

It turned out that one of the three monitors (I tought I had set to a black coloured background) was set to a wallpaper folder which I deleted a while ago.

Have disabled the taskbar from changing colour to the wallpaper and that doesn't freeze anymore. Just tried it, still freezing. No it still freezes for a second.
