I too have been having these exact issues since moving from win 7 to Win 10 several years ago. I had another thread about it, and we determined that turning off the "automatically choose accent color" in windows settings helped alleviate this problem, and it seemed to work for a while. Now the problem is back.
The performance only seems to degrade within about a day when I have DF set to cycle images for wallpaper, and the faster the cycle, the faster the performance in windows degrades. Cycling video as wallpaper does not do this at all and I can have that running for a week with no issues. If I set the wallpaper to a single image, there is no degradation in windows performance. It's only when I have it cycling static images.

I have also been monitoring performance metrics as of late. Having the latest 9.7.1 version installed, DisplayFusion is constantly stealing 20-30% (!!!) of my Core i9 resources. That is insane and way out of line.
I especially noticed this since my upgrade to 9.7.0 (and later 9.7.1) and finally started looking into stuttering and locks happening here and there. - My DisplayFusion Taskbar is regularly lagging and this is where I see DisplayFusion stealing even 50% of my CPU.

I know finally know why sometimes my Visual Studio, Teams and Outlook run so extremely slow!

Also, I regularly get weird black areas in some apps, incl. Outlook. - I am now 99% sure that this is DisplayFusion messing something up.

I am hoping that these issues may be fixed, but I now realize that I have been suffering under it for quite some time. - This is crucial to improve, as I otherwise may accept lacking a few premium features in favor of alternative better-performing apps, as the perforamnce overhead is affecting not only my productivity but also my electricity bill

Some practical info:
I am running multi-monitor setup with virtual monitors on a Philips 49" 32:9 1440p monitor (2.1, 2.2, 2.3) + laptop monitor (1.1) + an older 1920x1200 24" monitor (3.1).
I am constantly running X Chrome windows distributed across my monitors.
I am constantly having Microsoft Teams open (mainly monitor 2.3).
I am constantly working with Visual Studio 2019 Enterprise (mainly monitor 2.2 with test runner window on monitor 3.1).
I am constantly having Microsoft Outlook open (mainly monitor 1.1).
Spotify normally running (mainly monitor 1.1).
Various other apps on-demand of course

Also, I tried shutting down DisplayFusion, which is definitely noticeable!

I've used Display Fusion Pro since V. 7.x without issue (~2014.)
Since the latest version was updated to 9.6.1, both on Win 7Pro and Win 10Pro, I've noticed a drastic change. Switching from a single monitor to multiple monitors now takes as much as 30-40 seconds to complete the process.
I'm hoping that a resolution to this lag will arrive soon in an upcoming patch.
Is is possible to download the previous version of displayfusion somewhere?
