My soul is sensitive to the restlessly unrequited - let's just say that as a young man I was tragically rejected by the girl of my dreams because I made a poor first impression - I just hate to see people pass up superlatively good products just because of a few minor hiccups which are easily solved.

Tried both points. Dragged items to the menu and configured the middle button. Both provided what I needed, so I now have the CSM running again. Yes, I guess I can disable and enable displaying either menu as needed. So, I now have the Windows 7 menu on the primary monitor and DF displays the CSM on the three other monitors. (Yeah, yeah, it's a side-effect...) Works for me!

@Kilmatead: Are you passionate about the product or what?

What I really love is being able to have fixed Windows Explorer buttons, including a favorites button. Now if I could just make a button turn on and turn off the navigation pane (the old folders button in XP), I'd be really pleased.

The context menu entry "Pin to Start Menu" does not apply to CS, that's true, but anything can be dragged/dropped into the menu itself which results in exactly the same thing.

The search box facility in CSM is essentially the same as that in Win7 - though it intentionally limits itself to certain system/user paths to avoid too many superfluous results.

In the CS settings, under "Controls", you can configure what happens when the Start Button is clicked in different ways - for instance, a normal Left-Click opens the CS Menu, but clicking on it using the Middle-Mouse-Button will bring up the standard Win7 start menu, so it's always available.

It would be nice if DF could honour this setting as well - though Keith's original reply above may cast doubt on that.

In any event, the bottom line is that CS is infinitely configurable - the Win7 menu (once you've used it long enough to discover its limits) is not.
I actually like features of the CSM, numbering recent apps for example, but I really like how Window 7's type-and-find search box works and the pinning of items to the start menu. The latter is not in CSM, best I could tell.

What I liked in the previous DF was that I could have both start menus.

Regards to Jon. DF is the greatest.

If I understand correctly, the OP simply wishes to disable the CS Start Menu entirely and only use the Explorer "enhancement" module. The CS Start Menu may be wholly disabled and removed (while still retaining the other CS features) simply by running the installer again, selecting "Change", and changing the "Start Menu" module setting to "Entire feature will be unavailable".

(Why anyone would actually want to use the original Win7 Start Menu, I have no idea, but I suppose the psychologists have a word for it no doubt. )

In any event, it's easily disabled.

Our implementation in 4.3 only put the Classic Shell Start Menu on the DisplayFusion taskbars, and left the Windows one alone, so your main monitor must have the DisplayFusion taskbar, while the secondary has the Windows one

At any rate, we had to take out our custom implementation of Classic Shell to comply with their license terms, which is why we went to a solution where we would just support the existing Classic Shell installation.

However, due to the way that method that we need to use to support the Classic Shell installation, it may not be possible to show the native Windows Start Menu on the DisplayFusion taskbar. I will add this to our list for further investigation though, and if we have any news, I'll be sure to post an update.

Thanks!

Jon,

Recently upgraded my work computer from XP to 7, and installed Classic shell to get the XP explorer buttons back. This comes with an update to the start menu that I don't particularly like, which cannot be disabled.

To my astonishment and delight, the DF Pro version 4 general release version I installed on 7 put the Classic Shell start menu only on the main monitor and not the additional monitor task bars. I could get the best of both worlds.

Since I don't mind beta testing for you guys, I installed v5 beta, now at beta 5, and suddenly all the start menus use Classic Shell. Can I please please please have the option of turning this on or off by monitor in DF? I realize that you probably considered it a bug fix but for me it was a really great feature...

Please, could you do this for a long and loyal beta tester...? Perhaps an advanced setting?
