Just a quick update, the issue with dragging files between two transparent Explorer windows should now be fixed up in 4.2 Beta 3.

I still wasn't able to reproduce the issue with the iTunes Minimize rule not working on the first try, so unfortunately I don't think it's something we'll be able to fix up from our end.

As for the Torrents window in MAL Updater not obeying the Window Location rule, it's still on our list, but we haven't been able to fix it up yet.

Thanks!

Edit: It actually looks like we won't be able to fix up the Torrents window in MAL Updater, we've tried a few things to make it work, and it's just not accepting it. Sorry!

Keith,

Add Spyder2express.exe V2.3.6 Monitor Color Calibration to the list that does not honor Window Location. This program is not an installed application. It always wants to run on a specific monitor of its choosing. Unless you have a license serial number, it will not be possible to test where the display ends up.

FYI, Spyder2express V2.3.6 is a 64 bit version of Spyder2 that is specific to building a Color LUT for 1 monitor (Spyder Pro has multiple monitor support but think $$). It places the adjustment screen on the monitor designated in the BIOS for the BIOS screen. By changing the BIOS or re-cabling, it is possible to build unique CLUT's (via renaming) and then have either Windows Color management or Spyder Profile Chooser load the correct CLUT into the video cards. DisplayFusion Window Location would make this a simpler action. The Monitor CLUT re-calibration is not a frequent routine so the inconvenience is not that great.
Also, I'm writing to mention a new problem with Window Location with the latest beta version (v4.1.0 Beta 14). When I open up the window panel from the taskbar (the one with the search bar, recently opened programs, the Shut down button, etc.) and click the arrow next to the Shut down button to pull up the additional pop-up menu with Log off, restart, etc., that pop-up menu (or other pop-up menus like the one for Administrative Tools) gets affected by the Windows Location rule set to affect Explorer.exe.
For my case, I have it set so that explorer navigation windows open on my secondary screen and turn slightly transparent. With that rule, the latest beta now does that to the aforementioned pop-up menu, so it moves to my other screen and turns slightly transparent, as well.

So I restarted my computer a few hours ago, and just now started up iTunes for the first time since then, and it minimizes correctly, so it's probably what you said earlier about the hooks (unless it's the new beta that fixed it, since it's also my first time starting the computer since the latest beta version or two). If it is what you said, then I'm not sure how long it takes to load the necessary hooks, as I haven't tested it on a bunch of different intervals. It certainly takes longer than the hooks that makes windows transparent, as I've previously mentioned in my last post.

The first time after logging off and on again doesn't have this problem, though. I wonder why it's not working for me but is for you. I don't have iTunes on the main monitor, if that means anything.

Quote:
Regarding the Windows Explorer issue, I was finally able to reproduce this. I'm not sure if there's anything we can do about it, but we'll certainly look into it. Applying transparency to all explorer.exe windows is a bit tricky, because there are a lot of different types of windows that run under that process, and some of them may not behave well with transparency settings (for example, the little preview that shows while dragging).

This was totally fine before I started having this problem around the time that Window Location got a code overhaul. Perhaps that since the coding is much more complex now, it is now making things transparent that the old code didn't, which allows for problems in addition places. I'm pretty sure this problem (which was a blinking problem, then) was somehow temporarily fixed in Beta 12 or 13 of 4.0.0 but came back in Beta 15 (as a white-box problem, instead).

Sorry for the delayed response on this. I've finally had a chance to test out the issues you're still having.
For iTunes, even on the first launch after rebooting the computer, it still minimizes for me. How quickly do you open iTunes after the computer boots up? It's possible that even though DisplayFusion has started, the hooks haven't had a chance to load yet, which would make the Window Location rules fail until they do get loaded.

As for MAL Updater, I was able to enable the Torrents plugin and can confirm that it doesn't get set as transparent by the Window Location rule, so we'll have a look into that again as well.

Thanks!

For MAL Updater, I'm having the issue where the main window sometimes doesn't become transparent, as well. As for what the 2nd window I'm talking about looks like, take a took at the first attackment. This opens at launch for me; it might not open by default when one first gets the program, though.

As for the windows explorer issue, the second attachment is what it looks like when I try to drag anything (files or folders) to and/or from the explorer window. As long as the mouse cursor is still dragging the item and is currently over the Windows Explorer window, the box is visible; as soon as the cursor hovers somewhere else, the box disappears, but reappears again if the cursor is moved back over it. For about the first 1/4 to 1/2 of a second, you can still see the item that you're dragging following the mouse, but then the icon gets replaced by the box as seen in the attachment.
[I'm not sure if the following information is helpful at all, but I'll include it, anyway: This box is always the same size when dragging from from within the Windows Explorer. When dragging image files from an internet explorer window to Windows Explorer, the box is the size of the image as it's currently displayed (excluding tiny images, in which case the box is has a minimum size that's bigger than it).]
Also, my video card's driver is up-to-date.

iTunes seems to Minimize if it wasn't last closed in the same spot. For example, if the rule is set up to move iTunes to Monitor 2 and Minimize, it works as long as the last screen I closed it on is not Monitor 2. If I close it on Monitor 2, then open it again, the minimize doesn't work. We'll have to keep working on this one.

As for MAL Updater, which secondary window isn't becoming transparent? I've tested the Now Playing window, and it's kind of weird. It will go transparent every other time I open it. However, I re-tested 3.4, and it seems to do the same thing.

Regarding the Windows Explorer issue, I can't seem to reproduce it. I've tried making two Windows Explorer windows transparent, and then dragging files between them and all seems to be ok. Have you tried updating your video card drivers at all?

Thanks!

For some reason, iTunes still doesn't minimize, and the secondary window on MAL Updater doesn't become transparent (the main window does, though). Also, Beta 15 made dragging files in the window explorer windows (with transparency via Window Location turned on for them) glitchy again. I think it was Beta 12 or 13 that had this problem completely fixed, and Beta 14 didn't have problems for me regarding this, as well (although I didn't restart my computer after installing Beta 14 before updating to 15, if that does anything). With Beta 15, it's glitchy, again, but in slightly different way than before. Before, the dragged icon would blink rapidly, but now, when I drag stuff, the icon completely disappears, and a wide white box appears until I let go of the mouse button.

This is probably asking for too much, but is it possible to have a feature in a later build where one can use the old code for Window Location prior to 3.4.1? Ever since the major change of the code for Window Location, not only has there been a lot of issues, but even some of the minor "improvements" turned out to be more problematic than helpful. But that might be just me.
All the other new features in the beta are great though, so I still want to use the up-to-date version for those features.
