The problem with automatically saving it is that you could end up in a situation where the icons get scrambled up for whatever reason, and then the auto-save overwrites your good locations with bad ones.

If you want to save it automatically still, you can create a Custom Function and Trigger rule to do that. Please see the attached screenshots for reference.

And if you assign the profile to a Monitor Profile, it will auto-load whenever that Monitor Profile is detected.

Hope that helps!

I love the fact that DisplayFusion has icon profiles. The problem, IMO, is that icons and icon layouts change, and the user may forget to save before turning off a monitor. Maybe tie an icon profile to a monitor profile, and periodically update the icon profile while that monitor profile is live/active. If the monitor profile changes, and then reverts back (turn off a monitor, then turn it back on), recognize the change and restore the icon profile

Thinking this over, I don't know that it even makes sense to have more than one icon profile per Windows user, per monitor profile, so maybe instead of allowing the user to save explicit icon profiles it could just automatically be tied to the user and monitor profile. Who really wants their icons randomly rearranged by the OS when monitor configurations change?

Old feature - Icon Profiles
New feature - Icon Layout Memory
