I'll try to explain it better this time :)

DisplayFusion won't try to automatically apply a Monitor Profile unless you set it up that way (like I mentioned with the Triggers). But, if Windows automatically remembers the monitor layout, and that monitor layout matches what was saved as a DF Monitor Profile, DF will detect that and apply the assigned Desktop Icon Profile, Wallpaper Profile, and audio device, as configured in the "Manage Monitor Profiles" window.

I don't understand. When I plug in at the office it switches to that profile... On that note, configuring DisplayFusion to load the Monitor Profile on startup will solve this issue for you (albeit, after logging in, as DisplayFusion can't change the monitor configuration at the logon screen). Here's the easiest way to do that:
  • Install the latest beta (need the new Triggers feature for this): https://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta
  • On the Triggers tab, add a new rule like the one in the attached screenshot
  • Click OK, OK again, then reboot to test it out

It recognizes the laptop-only profile, of course. This seems to happen pretty slowly. When I plug in the HDMI, the laptop's screen goes blank and everything moves to the secondary display. Previously I was running the monitor over a DisplayPort connection and DisplayFusion worked fine. However, many monitors have a DisplayPort problem in that occasionally an internal capacitor causes the monitor to fail to recognize a signal and you have to unplug the thing for several minutes. Very annoying, so I switched to HDMI.

I had to tweak the setup a little for HDMI (DisplayPort was 59Hz, HDMI is 60Hz) so that profile was saved over after I switched.

Now upon power-up (or wake-up), I get the secondary monitor wallpaper, my laptop screen is blank, and all my icons and taskbar jumps to the second monitor. I have to manually tell DF to load the profile which fixes the displays and moves my taskbar back to my primary (laptop) screen, then I have to manually load the icon positions.

It sort of recognizes the profile, I guess, because the secondary screen is showing the correct wallpaper.

Oh and the Windows login screen starts out on the secondary, whereas under DisplayPort it started on my laptop and the secondary was blank.
