FWIW, after just again resaving my layouts and resaving my desktop icon profiles, I closed my laptop lid and the profile didn't rearrange with any error. So this seems to be an intermittent problem. I do seem to remember that there wasn't an issue immediately after updating to this beta.

Intermittent issues are more headache-inducing than consistent ones. I have repeatedly have saved and resaved my desktop icon profiles, but each time I change monitor profiles (when I dock, undock, close, oropen my laptop lid), the desktop icon profile loaded is wrong. Things were working (seemingly) fine before this beta version.
