I uninstalled / reinstalled DisplayFusion to no great effect, but then, I dragged the taskbar as you suggested - result !!! How the taskbar migrated to the second screen - no idea - it's not something I mess with and it was fine previously. Anyway - thanks again.

What happens if you move the Windows taskbar back to the Primary monitor?

• Right-click the Windows taskbar and make sure that "Lock the taskbar" is disabled.
• Left-click and drag the Windows taskbar to the bottom of the monitor that you want it to be on.

Today when I booted up my primary toolbar launced on Display 2 and nothing on Display 1 - all was well when I switched off last night, no software added nor system changes made. ]]>
