Okay, apparently I was using it on some applications that morph into other ones after they open. Opening the application and THEN using the selection screen in Window Location helped me find the right one.
And one of the applications required displayfusion to be restarted before it worked properly.

But it all seems to work as you say, thanks!

The Window Location rules are applied most-specific to least specific, so it actually should (and does on my test system) use the rule for a specific application if it's there, rather than using the *.* rule.

Could you send me a screenshot of your Window Location tab, and let me know which applications aren't respecting their specific Window Location rules?

Thanks!

In the Window Location menu, you can specify *.* to mean all applications should obey this rule, in my case to always open on the current screen. However, if I define other rules they are not followed since the *.* seems to override everything.

I would expect the *.* rule to mean "all the rest" and not "everything", because if I define more rules it's because I want certain applications to be exempt from the *.* rule and behave as I specify.
The *.* should be a catch-all at the end of the list of rules, it should not always be the first match on all applications.
