Unfortunately, I have the polling rate set to 1 right now and it can start having some performance issues if the mirroring area gets to large. I'm trying ot keep it as realtime as possible as I'm using it to mirror elements of game HUDS from my side displays to my center display (using surround on games that aren't well built for it).

A couple thoughts come to mind:

Is there any way that you could implement a way to crop the image of the window mirror to display a specific area of a window (maybe defined by window-relative xy coordinates or something)?

I wonder if there's a way to exploit the virtual desktop previews that shown on the win+tab screen to kinda do display mirroring? And crop that somehow to do selected area mirroring as well? It could dynamically switch to the virtual desktop you're on, but I could also see the advantage of a "desktop mirroring" mode that shows a preview of one virtual desktop or a cropped area from one, while focused on another.

It sure does! For mirroring windows, we can use a built-in DWM function to do it. It's the same function that the taskbar previews use to show a live preview of the window.

Unfortunately there's no such function for mirroring monitors or arbitrary areas, so we have to use a different method that's (as you've seen) not as good.

You can make it smoother by decreasing the polling interval. In the Settings > Advanced Settings, set the "Mirror Polling Interval (ms)" to something low, like 25 or 50. Note that the lower that setting, the higher the CPU usage will be, so you may want to tweak it to find your optimal trade off of performance vs CPU usage.

Hope that helps!

Does the window mirroring feature use a different mirroring method than the display/selected area mirroring modes? It is MUCH smoother with less delay (tested by mirroring both a display and a window maximized on that display) than the other two mirroring modes. The color seems to be handled differently as well. When I mirror some content (almost all youtube videos with darker regions will trigger this) with the display/selected area mirroring modes, some dark areas seem to glitch out and display as pure white instead. This doesn't happen at all on the window mirroring mode.

Is it possible to update the display/selected area mirroring with these benefits?
