Which outputs does your laptop have available? The cable you're talking about is probably a VGA cable, which should work, though you may need to open the Windows Screen Resolution settings (right-click the desktop, choose Screen Resolution), then click Detect before it will show up.

If your laptop has HDMI though, I would use that instead. If the laptop has HDMI but the monitor only has DVI, you can get an HDMI to DVI cable fairly cheap at most computer shops.

Hope that helps!

Hi there,

This is the first time I've used this software.

I'm looking to connect up a monitor to my laptop so I have a two screen set up. What cable do I need to connect the monitor to the laptop? Do I need an HDMI cable? At the moment, I have that cable with little screws in it (which is at both ends) connected between the laptop and monitor, but the software doesn't seem to detect the monitor.

How do I get started?

Many thanks
Kevin
