This is really starting to piss me off. I have several wallpaper profiles set up for my computer with two monitors. One is a landscape monitor, with a second portrait monitor. The wallpaper works fine for the landscape monitor, but the portrait one just gives me an annoyingly cropped repeat of the main monitor profile.

According to DisplayFusion, everything is fine. But my monitors tell a different story. Can anyone please help me resolve this issue? I've tried hitting google for 2 weeks now, but there are zero answers.

This is likely explorer.exe not refreshing the desktop for some reason. When this happens, if you use the Windows Task Manager to kill explorer.exe, then do File > Run new task > explorer.exe, does that fix it up?

Okay, ended windows explorer, had to do a user restart to get any functionality back. It fixed the problem...for about 3 seconds. Then it just reverted to the same problem again.

Changing to a different wallpaper setup also doesn't seem to work. Nor does a restart or a shutdown and start up again.

Ok, thanks for trying that out. Can you try a couple more things?

  • If you exit DisplayFusion and try to set the wallpaper with the Windows settings, does it work?
  • If you disable the "Use transitions when changing..." option in DisplayFusion Desktop Wallpaper > Wallpaper Settings, apply the settings, then reboot, does that make any difference?

Well, the windows wallpaper manager handles two monitors of different orientations poorly. That was worse.

Disabling transitions seems to have worked. That or it was updating my video card driver. Either way, I think the problem is solved.

Okay, the problem has returned. Well, returned about a week after I solved it. None of the old suggestions worked. That and the software monitor triggers also don't work. At all. This software is borked.

Ok, could you try something else for the wallpaper? Open the "C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes" folder in Windows Explorer, delete the "TranscodedWallpaper" file, then reboot and apply the DisplayFusion wallpaper. Does it work? For the Triggers, could you send me screenshots of the Edit window for the Triggers that aren't working? Thanks!

Okay, I think that deleting TranscodedWallpaper seems to have worked, at least the first time.

For the triggers, I think I figured them out on my own.

The wallpaper problem is back again. I've done all of the steps in this thread once more. Still no change. Changed briefly when I updated my graphics card drivers, but is now back again. Help?

Beginning to think that this program just doesn't work.

If you disable the DisplayFusion wallpaper and try to set it through the Windows settings, does it set correctly?

Uh, I guess? The same thing. There's no difference between Display Fusion and Windows when I use the image. Could it be that I have one landscape and one portrait monitor? It's the portrait monitor that never works right.

Even if I set my main display to an image and the second portrait display to a solid color, I still see an image.

Ok, can you try opening the following folder in Windows Explorer, and delete the "TranscodedWallpaper" file that's in it?

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\

After that, try setting the wallpaper again?

I've done that, multiple times. Doesn't make a difference.

Frankly, the situation is frustrating, as sometimes the proper wallpaper shows up, then at other times it's just an oddly cropped repeat of my main window wallpaper. I can't figure out a rhyme or reason as to why this happens.

Everything looks fine in the troubleshooting info. Do you login to any other computers with the same Microsoft account?

Could you grab some info for explorer.exe for me?

  • Download and runProcess Explorer
  • Select explorer.exe in the list of processes
  • Press Ctrl + D to show the lower pane with DLL information
  • Press Ctrl + A to save the info to a text file

Thanks!
