I just moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and my Triggers were not imported. Are those not exported or did something go wrong?

They should be exported when you use the Export button on the Options tab. Did you import the settings into DisplayFusion 7.3.4, or DisplayFusion 8.0 Beta 3?

FYI, I did not get an email notification for your reply.

I imported the automatic nightly backup created the day before (on Windows 7) into DisplayFusion 8.0 Beta 3.

Sorry about that! I've enabled Discussions notifications on your account now :)

Would you be able to attach the backup here so that I can have a look at it?

Thanks!

Just to confirm, I just built a second Windows 10 machine, same problem. Triggers not imported.

It looks like that backup is from the Steam version of DisplayFusion. Are you restoring the settings on a machine that you've installed DisplayFusion through Steam or directly from our website?

I just realized, that my Custom Functions also did not import.

When you import the settings, then check the License Key tab, is your key there, and does it show the Steam logo?

It's there now, but I don't know if it was there right after I imported. How can I test this?

So on one machine, my Functions were imported, but not the Triggers, on the other machine, neither were imported.

Ok, interesting! Could you attach copies of the troubleshooting info (steps below) from each of those machines? I'd like to compare them to the test machine that I imported your settings on here.
  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Copy to Clipboard" button
  • Paste the text into a text file (please don't paste the text directly into your reply, the formatting gets garbled and makes it difficult to parse)
  • Reply with the file attached

Thanks! Both of those copies show a bunch of Triggers listed. Did you manually create them after restoring your settings already?

Some of them, yes.

Ok, thanks! I'm stumped as to why the Triggers didn't import correctly, as they definitely work fine when I import them here using your backup (just tried again). Would you still like to troubleshoot this further, or are you ok with re-creating them manually?

Well, the thought of having to do this over each time I rebuild a machine (which is probably all to frequent) is not something that I relish. I have one more machine to rebuild with Windows 7 (my laptop), let me do that one and we'll see how it goes. I'll try to monitor more closely along the way. Where are these settings stored? In the Registry?

Sounds good! The settings are indeed stored in the registry. They're in the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Binary Fortress Software\DisplayFusion

Please let me know how it works out on the Windows 7 machine and we'll go from there. One thing I just wanted to note, is to make sure you update to the latest 8.0 Beta before restoring your settings. The Triggers feature didn't exist in 7.3.4, so if you restore the settings in 7.3.4, then update to the 8.0 Beta, the Trigger rules won't be there.

Thanks!

Just to clarify, this will be a clean install of Windows 10 (I meant it has Windows 7 on it currently). FYI, I've never had this issue with Windows 7 (hopefully it was a fluke on 10).

That machine died and I'm replacing it, so I don't have anything else to test.
