If you hover over the taskbar for a split second before middle clicking it will click the preview window. I'm wondering if the preview started to pop up on hover, and then the middle click triggered on it too early. I use middle click to open all the time, and it is usually fine. It's only once in a while that doing it will cause the browser to close. Often when i'm fullscreen on a youtube video using chrome, then middle click on the taskbar to open a new chrome window all chrome instances will exit.
This happens quite often to me so I had logging turned on which I attached.
