I just tried making a folder shortcut with DisplayFusion 5.1 Beta 18 successfully and really liked it, even without the /root option. I fully understand why you didn't put that in and it's not that big of a deal -- it's actually kind of useful because it allows you to navigate to a different higher-level folder more easily and gives you even more context about what folder you're currently looking at, which is one of the main reasons I've always preferred a dual-pane over single-pane views in the first place.

Nice (and quick) work! Keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback and considering making it the default. Long ago I made dual-pane mode the default view for all manually opened Explorer windows with a simple registry change. Here's a .reg file that does it:

Code

Copy

Select All

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell]
@="explore"

The default value for the key is "" instead of "explore", which opens up a single-pane view.

I just saw your reply about a beta version with this feature and will try as soon as I can -- once again, thanks.

Quick update: We've just posted DisplayFusion 5.1 Beta 18, and the folder shortcuts now use /e. We didn't include /root, as some people might not want the folder tree to be constrained to the launched folder, so you'll likely still need to use your workaround if you want to use /root still.
Thanks!

FWIW I prefer making my DisplayFusion folder shortcuts explicitly run "C:\Windows\explorer.exe" with the Command Line Arguments "/e,/root,path to folder". The main difference being that this opens up a dual-pane Explorer window rooted at the specified folder instead of a single-pane one.

On Windows XP (and possibly other versions), to open up a view of My Computer use "/e,/root,::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}".

Information about all Explorer's command-line argument can be found at Command-Line Switches for Windows Explorer. The information also applies to Windows XP, so there's no need "Visit the Windows XP Solution Center" and trying to find it (as suggested near the beginning.) There's several other options you might find useful, too.
