We've just released a new DisplayFusion beta version (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and the DisplayFusion taskbar should now use the custom icon from the Windows taskbar. If the same application was also pinned to the DisplayFusion taskbar, you may need to unpin/re-pin it to the DisplayFusion taskbar before it will get the correct icon. Please let us know if you run into any trouble after updating.
I would really, really like this feature as well!

It seems like it would be easy to set aside a folder with custom icons that DisplayFusion checks whenever a new icon would appear on the taskbar. If the name of the .exe matches, it uses that icon instead of the one built-in to the .exe.

You could make this an "advanced setting" feature so you wouldn't even need to add it to the standard GUI.

And, I would be happy to pay extra for that feature $$$ $$$

P.S. DisplayFusion is really great program that makes everyday a little bit better!

We haven't found a reliable way to get the custom icon from the Windows taskbar, but there's a bit of a work around that will hopefully work for you. If you pin the program to the DisplayFusion taskbar (right-click it's button, choose "Pin this Program to Taskbar"), you can then set a custom icon on it. Just right-click the pinned button and choose "Edit this Pinned Item," cancel the first dialog that pops up, then select the pinned item and click Icon > Set Custom Icon.

Hope that helps!

I know this feature has been mentioned/requested before but the last post on it I found was from 3 years ago. I was curious if there is now a way to implement custom icons for task bars.

I use custom icons on all of my computers and it is a little jarring having 2 icons for every application. I know the initial issue was that in windows you change the shortcut icon and not the application, but is there any way you could just have displayfusion carry over the icon originally on the Windows taskbar?

Alternatively could you let the user specify a custom icon to overlay whenever an application is placed on a display fusion task bar? (ie. Google Chrome is moved from Monitor 1 to monitor 2, it's icon moves over to monitor 2's taskbar and you right-click the icon, selecting a customize option then change the icon. From that point on any time a chrome window icon is displayed on the monitor 2 taskbar it uses the custom icon instead of chrome.exe's default icon)

Great program and I love it so far, thanks for your time and efforts.
