Loving the new beta!

I've got some findings you mite want to know about:
  • No animation for the auto-hide feature, right?
  • The DF taskbar only shows after the standard Windows taskbar is shown.
  • Right-clicking the DF taskbar when auto-hide is on, will hide the taskbar too. When there's focus on taskbar (right-clicking it so the context menu opens up) should temporary disable the auto-hide feature.
  • When auto-hide feature "...shown with the taskbar" & "...only hide when empty" is enabled AND the main taskbar has NOT the auto-hide feature enabled, the DF taskbar are on top of the windows showing on that monitor. The preferred solution is that the DF taskbar in that case acts as a original taskbar and moves all windows above it.
  • The grouping feature cuts off a little from the right grouping icon. The original icon width should be used and when there are more windows of that kind, an extra border should be added.http://img692.imageshack.us/i/98392759.jpg/

Windows 7 Pro 32-bits EN with 2 different sized monitors (left primary).

Keep up the great work.

Groupped taskbar buttons should also display a thumbnail for each window to allow choosing the window to activate/deactivate.

Exactly - though it should be added that this is more evident when application windows open as maximized.

And, to facilitate this, it would help if the thumbnail(s) don't disappear on timeout when moused-over, unlike the Windows TB.

Hope the idea of clicking the grouped-icon to select from a list of instances is not a permanent thing...

Aldo there's a thumbnail for every grouped window, it isn't done perfect yet. When you click the grouped icon, a menu is opened and then when hovered there's a thumbnail.
Better would be if the thumbnails are shown beside each other.

Also:
  • Clicking a grouped icon shows the menu. Right-clicking an item there does show the context-menu from that window, but it also activates/focuses that window.

Relax everyone, it's only the first beta! :) All kidding aside, it's nice to get such excellent feedback so soon after the release. Let me see if I can cover all of the issues raised here.

Auto-hide animation: This is planned for 3.2.1 final.
Taskbar shown after Windows taskbar: If you are referring to the new auto-hide mode, this is by design. There will be a bit of a lag until the Windows taskbar is shown, but it works as expected.
Auto-hide taskbar while menu open: It would be possible keep the DF taskbar visible while the DF menu is open, but DF can't detect when the window context menus have been closed, so it's not really possible to keep the taskbar visible while they are shown.
Show when empty issue: When the Windows taskbar is not set to auto-hide, I would recommend setting your DF taskbar to "Auto-hide enabled". :)
Grouping icon clipping: Thanks for letting me know, I'll have this fixed up for the next version.
Show context menu focuses the window: This has been in DF for a long time, and it's something that DF has to do. In order to show that context menu, it has to be the currently focused window, sorry.

As for the preview windows, I knew this would be reported. :) I want to get the Windows XP/Vista grouping styles completed first, as they're the easiest and still work perfectly in Windows 7. After this is done, I will work on the more advanced side-by-side window previews, and give you the option to use the simple list style, or the new preview style, even in XP/Vista. Don't worry, it's all coming soon.

Not to belabour a point, but doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of the original request? - secondary LCD's often spend a proportion of their time unused (much to the chagrin of Electric bills), and an empty taskbar just looks weird - considering how much effort has been put into every DF wallpaper fandanglement imaginable, it becomes partially an aesthetic issue, but still one of functionality. I personally can't stand the auto-hiding of the Windows taskbar (what's the point? distracting animation for 12 vertical pixels?) but then again due to the design of Win7 pinned icons, it's never empty, so there's no reason to hide it.

Is this a maximizing issue? As in, when an application is launched the full screen is taken into account, but adding a taskbar (ex post facto) would require a recomputation? Since DF has no problem with this under a static taskbar, I wouldn't have thought the addition would be that arduous.

Or am I missing something?

Sorry, I'm an idiot. I have no idea what I was thinking, but you're right. I'll have to re-think this feature a bit, it does overlap the windows and makes them quite difficult to use.

Thank you for your reply. I just had the time to give a proper (sorry for my bad English) beta-report as you should expect from beta-testers.

I'll settle for only the DF menu right now.

What I mented in my first post is that when one of both new features is enabled and the Windows Taskbar is NOT set to auto-hide, DF still is hovering over the windows (acting like it should be hidden any moment now). It should detect if Windows taskbar has the option auto-hide enabled and act like windows taskbar does.

Can't wait for the next beta.

Very true about auto-hiding when the Windows taskbar is set to non-autohide. I'll make that correction in the next beta. :)

Just found out that this is the preferred way on Windows too.

Keep it up;

Just installed beta 3, and I've got some findings.

First:
Quote:
Fixed: Taskbar "Grouped Button" window list is now larger when "Icon Only" mode is enabled
isn't fixed for me. More details from above:
Quote:
The grouping feature cuts off a little from the right grouping icon. The original icon width should be used and when there are more windows of that kind, an extra border should be added.
http://img692.imageshack.us/i/98392759.jpg/

Second, when hovered over a button (when grouped, with and without text) the second and more windows (so the little borders on the right) aren't colored. Only the main big button is colored when hovered.

Windows 7 Pro 32-bits EN with 2 different sized monitors (left primary).

Hope this helps, keep up the great work.

I know all these little user-fetishes no doubt drive you crazy, with everyone thinking their peeve is important :-), but this new feature hasn't seen any love for the last 4 betas - and yet it's still available as an option - any closer to some result?

Cheers.

Unfortunately, the only way to fix this is remove it. :( That's why I haven't done anything with it yet, I'd like to avoid that, but haven't thought of a good way to handle it without deleting it. :) I'll come back to it shortly though, no worries.
