So I've been running DisplayFusion Pro on my Windows 7 x64 machine for several years now, but this is the first time it has just refused to run. After the slew of viruses going around the internet this last weekend our IT group pushed out several Windows updates. I installed them and restarted, and on login Windows comes up with a dialog stating DisplayFusion has stopped working. I can't seem to run any EXE in the Program Files (x86)\DisplayFusion folder.

Attached is my DebugInfo but I wasn't sure how to enable any extra debug logging since nothing seems to run. I can list the updates that were recently installed but there are quite a few of them.

I would suggest reinstalling DisplayFusion to see if that helps. If that doesn't help, it's possible that some antivirus or anti-malware software is interfering with DisplayFusion, we've seen that many times in the past.

Uninstall and reinstall didn't help. And this system doesn't have any antivirus running, and no additional anti-malware software is installed other than Windows Defender that I believe comes with the OS.

I have had a similar problem on my work computer. Recently had to replace the hard drive and installed Display Fusion. Running windows 7 x64 DisplayFusion 8.1.2 Program is crashing quite a bit, had a lot of problems setting up the wallpaper. Most of the time, I cannot get the settings screen to load (see splash screen, but do not get the settings window).

I did try to re-install the program, with no change.

So for me I was able to resolve this but am unsure what fixed it. I uninstalled DisplayFusion, restarted, reinstalled it, restarted, and it still wasn't working. The next day I came into the office and on startup DisplayFusion came up. I do think it had something to do with the recent batch of installed Windows updates but an uninstall reinstall, and several restarts seems to have fixed it.

That's great news that you got it working at least, I'm glad to hear it. :)

@Murray2: Do you happen to have an application called "Dell Backup & Recovery" installed on your machine?

Yes it is. It's a dell laptop.

It also was before the hard drive crashed, and was replaced as well, and display fusion worked fine then.

When we switched to .NET 4.6, this issue showed up because the Dell Backup & Recovery app loads an old version of a DLL into memory that conflicts with the version that DisplayFusion needs to load.

If you don't use it, there are a couple of things you can do to resolve this:
  • Uninstall Dell Backup and Recovery, or,
  • Rename the C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell Backup and Recovery\components\Shell\System.Data.SQLite.dll file to System.Data.SQLite.old

Hope that helps!

Thanks, I renamed the file, and can now access the settings. I haven't had any more crashes, but time will tell on that.
