I'm using win10.
I have 2 Radeor RX 580 series monitors 3840 x 2160.

There's one program I would use several times/day IF I could only read the text in it. But it's old, and was designed for a smaller screen and on my monitors the text is super-tiny. Too small to be worth trying to work with.

I was hoping I could do screen splitting with DisplayFusion, then set the resolution in ONE of the split screens to be different than in all other split-screens, so that I could just put that program in it's own screen, set to a size I can read. But I can't figure out how to do that & it doesn't seem built to do that.

I can't just set one monitor's resolution to work with the old program, because I need to access a lot of other programs on that same monitor, and they all get too unwieldy. And changing the resolution in display settings every time I want to use that program is too cumbersome - I'd need it for 5 minutes every few hours - it's a pain.

So - now I'm trying to figure out if I could use DisplayFusion to set a custom monitor display size to trigger just when I open or focus on that one program, then put it back to normal when I close the program or focus elsewhere.

Is that possible? Or - does anyone have any other ideas about how to solve my problem?

Unfortunately DisplayFusion can't set a custom resolution for a split or specific program.

However, you might be able to get it to work a bit better if you're on a recent Windows 10 update, you can try the following:

  • Locate the EXE file in File Explorer
  • Right-click it, choose Properties
  • Click the Compatibility tab
  • Click "Change high DPI settings"
  • Try the various options there, one of them may work :)

Hope that helps!

Ok - thanks. I fiddled with the compability settings again & just couldn't make it work out.

What I ended up doing was to use my surface tablet as a 3rd monitor, set the resolution to much lower and just dedicate that to my problem program when I'm at my desk. That sort of solves the problem.

Ok, glad to hear you were able to find a decent workaround :)
