Hi

I have noticed that frequently Word icons for open documents go missing from the taskbar. I have a dual monitor setup, and they seem to go missing from the secondary monitor (but I am not 100% sure it is only from there) The only reason I notice anything is open, is when trying to shutdown windows it states there are documents open, but there are no taskbar buttons. I've only noticed this with Word documents so far. I've turned off the option on the taskbar to group similar icons, so they are all listed side by side.

I'm running the latest version of DisplayFusion, but this was also occurring on the previous version.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Office 2010

Thanks in advance!

I'm assuming the windows were minimized when they disappeared off the taskbar. If you alt-tab to one of them the next time it happens, does it then show up on the Taskbar again?

Also, does that machine ever go into sleep or hibernate, or do you connect to it through Remote Desktop at all? Just wondering if they're getting during a taskbar reload.

Yes, this is when the documents are minimised. The machine does not go into sleep or hibernate mode, it only goes to screensaver after 30 minutes. This issue also occurs even if the screensaver hasn't been activated

Ok, weird! I realize it might be tough to catch, but would you be able to enable debug logging, and send over a log the next time you notice that the Word button is missing from the taskbar? If you catch it in time, the log should show us why the button was removed from taskbar.
  • On the Troubleshooting tab, change the Logging drop-down to "Logging: Important Only"
  • Restart DisplayFusion
  • The next time it occurs, note the time so we'll know where to check in the log file
  • Send us the DisplayFusion.log and DebugInfo.html files (can be found by clicking the Open Log button on the Troubleshooting tab)
  • Disable debug logging after sending the log

Thanks!

Hi

I've attached some logs from this morning, we turned it on and found a missing taskbar icon, but not sure if we caught it in time. I've disabled and re-enabled logging now to try and catch it again if it happens, but not sure whether this log will have anything useful in it

Thanks! Did anything notable happen on the machine before the button went missing? The log indicates that the taskbar button was removed because the window wasn't found, but that's not super helpful because we know that the window is there :)

I'd like to try and reproduce this issue here, but I'm just wondering if there might be some commons steps that seem to cause this to occur.

Thanks!

Unfortunately not, sometimes it disappears even if the laptop is sitting there unused! If it helps, this only occurs on the main monitor, never on the second one that has the desktop extended onto. Also, on the main monitor all the icons are grouped as per program, however on the second monitor, they are all individually displayed - if that helps at all!!

Ok, interesting! So the buttons that go missing are for Word windows that are minimized on the Primary monitor?

We have been doing a bit of testing when we notice this error occurring. If we move the word file to the right-hand monitor, the icon appears on the taskbar there. Then when we move it back to the main monitor, the icon shows on the taskbar there.

If the logs can shed any light on this, we did the move at 4:59am on 20/08 in the attached log

Also, if it helps, the file that in this instance lost it's icon is called 'restore list.docx'

Thanks! We've just posted 6.0.1 Beta 4 (http://www.displayfusion.com/Download/Beta/) and this should hopefully be fixed up. We were able to reproduce a similar issue with Outlook, and we've added a generic fix for applications that re-use hidden windows. Could you give it a try and let me know how it works out?
