I tried the 5.1 upgrade, and had to uninstall. I found two audio applications that had errors initializing the main window when launching. Tag&Rename 3.65, and Mediamonkey 4.0.7.1511 both failed to launch with DF 5.1 loaded. When I unloaded DF both worked again.

I've just tested both of those programs with DisplayFusion 5.1 and Windows 7 x64, and they both seem to launch without crashing for me. Are you using a different version of Windows?

Could you also try reverting to DisplayFusion 5.0.1 (http://www.binaryfortress.com/Files/DisplayFusion/DisplayFusionSetup-5.0.1.exe) and let me know if it works again?

Thanks!

Keith,
I had both of these audio apps "thinapped" for portability so I can easily use them on multiple computers. It appears that an older version of Thinapp is behind the launch issues. I verified that both worked with DF 5.01, and failed to launch with DF 5.1. I just reinstalled both applications and they work fine without Thinapp. The Thinapp version I have is 4.0, not the latest. I have been using an alternative virtualization tool for portable apps lately (Cameyo) and tested several Cameyo apps with no issues found. So at this point, I have no issues with DF 5.1 and both of these apps are working. Thanks for the help!

Ah ok, that makes sense. We've got the ThinApp issue on our list, it looks like they crash when our mouse hooks are loaded (if any of the options in Settings > Window Management > Mouse Management are enabled. Unfortunately not much that can be done there, aside from disabling those options in DisplayFusion :(

Hi Jim, I just wanted to drop in and follow-up on this from your post on the Bits du Jour website. It looks like this is a bug with the VMware ThinApp packager, and there isn't a way for us to work around it. If we try to load a mouse hook, even if that hook doesn't do anything, their launcher crashes. My only hope for this is that VMware releases an updated version of ThinApp that fixes this issue, sorry. :)

OK thanks Jon. It sounds like an incompatibility that is part of the way VMware creates their portable apps. It is unusual that some of them work and others don't. It is disappointing that the workarounds don't seem to have any effect - still crash the app. I have been able to repackage apps with an alternative program and have not had issues when I do this. It would have been nice if there was a way to accommodate these programs with some workaround, but I think I have all may main programs taken care of now (just re-installed 5.11).
