Jon,
You added an Alternate Start button in 4.0, but currently are not keeping it up-to-date even in your new release. I know it has been said that updating it, is no small task and also I believe there was some mention of choosing other versions or rolling you own.
Have you any info for users who are working to help maintain and improve your software?
Regards,
Pete

Hi Pete, it's good to hear from you again. :) We had to heavily modify "Classic Shell", which is the program we are using for the alternate Start Menu. Unfortunately when the new version of Classic Shell was released our modifications couldn't be ported and we had to start from scratch. What we decided to do instead was wait to see if "Classic Shell" will release a version that supports a Start Button on each taskbar in Windows 8. If they do, we can leverage that code to support DisplayFusion. However, as you mentioned, it's taking much too long. We are planning to do the custom integration again very soon to fix this. It's quite a bit of work, but I can promise that you'll have something new before the end of the year. :)

Jon,
I want to follow up on this, with the hope you end up with an even better application than you have now.
Microsoft may have made a big mistake removing their classic start menu. However it has provided a platform for a slew of software writers\vendors to take up this criminally missing component. My problem with DF's current implementation is that is doesn't go far enough in that it doesn't put back the missing component on the default task bar - in my opinion - it has to going forward.
Looking forward to the improvements,
Pete

Hi DF,
I have got to laugh a little; just when you release DF with updated version of Classic Shell they release an update.
Makes you wonder if it would just be better to do your own and have full control somewhere in the future?
Anyway thanks for this update; but now more to for you to do. At least when you implement their new one it has jump lists.
Pete

Hey Pete, it does seem like bad timing. However, with our latest build, I've made it easier to move from version to version of Classic Shell. It should take hours not days now to update to new versions, unless Classic Shell changes things drastically, which they haven't yet. It should be trivial to update to the new version for the 4.3 final release, but don't hold me to that! ;)
