Hi,

I'm currently evaluating DisplayFusion for potential use throughout our corporate environment (8000+ users) and have a couple of questions at this stage:

1. Is there a straightforward way to export a Wallpaper profile and deploy it alongside the MSI file, so that the wallpaper settings I set up on my test PC can be assigned to all workstations running the software? At the moment the only export option I can see is to a .reg file which would mean deploying the software and then importing this registry file onto each machine to get the settings. Is there an easier way?

2. I see there is a "load random images" option which then changes the wallpaper on a timer. Can this be set at all so that the wallpaper is randomly selected from a set of images in a folder and doesn't change again until next logon? We'd like to display one of several wallpaper designs but this should only change at logon.

I'll probably have more questions whilst evaluating...but thanks in advance!

Glad to hear you're interested in DisplayFusion!

1. Currently, the only way to do this would be to export/import the registry key for the Wallpaper Profile, but it might also be possible using Group Policy Preferences. Do all of your workstations have the same monitor layout and resolutions?

2. The only way to do this at the moment would be to set the timer to something really high, and then have a startup item, or Scheduled Task to load the profile on login. Would that work for you?

Thanks!

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the reply. The randomising of wallpaper isn't a major point to be honest. The main reason we're evaluating is because we use a wide range of desktop and monitor configs and we're rolling out new full screen wallpaper - DisplayFusion came to mind as it works well when it comes to scaling the image correctly no matter how many screens and resolutions/aspect ratios are in place.

The registry being the only way wallpaper settings can be deployed may be a stumbling block however. I'm sure we can do it, was just hoping there would be an easier way to configure. It seems a crying shame that you don't have any functionality to centrally manage user's wallpaper settings when you've gone to so much effort to allow silent deployment and GPO configuration. Is this something likely to be released in a future build?

To be totally honest, you're the first one to request the ability to deploy DisplayFusion Wallpaper Profiles via Group Policy :)

The way the profiles are stored and loaded makes it a bit difficult to implement as a Group Policy setting, but we're definitely going to investigate this for a future version. I've created a Feature Request for this with your info, and we'll definitely let you know when we make some progress on it.

Please let me know if you have any other questions at all.

Thanks!
