Trying to use icon profiles to restore locations when my monitors change. Noticed it's not consistent for me. After looking at the stored profiles it seems like it's using whatever monitor is the most top-left and storing coordinates from there. My third monitor is top left and sometimes is turned off, I think causing the issue.

Can the profile store coordinates based on the top left of the primary monitor instead? That would work better in my case, seems like it should be more consistent overall.

Thoughts?

Hey Travis,

When your 3rd monitor is turned off, is it just powered off, or is it being disabled?

Thanks!

When it's powered off the computer sees it as being disconnected. One of the great features of Display Port from what I can gather.

Monitor 3 ceases to exist when on standby or powered off.

Hey Travis,

So your looking to have 1 profile saved, that will automatically adjust to the top left of the primary monitor, no matter monitor is?

Thanks!

The icon profiles that are saved do not react the same when the number of monitors I have turned on change.

For example, I only have icons on monitor 1. My "Recycle Bin" icon is at the very top left corner of monitor 1. Here is how this icon location is stored in the icon profile.

When I have monitor 1 and 2 on (red):
"Icon0014_Text"="Recycle Bin"
"Icon0014_X"="2573"
"Icon0014_Y"="52"

When I have monitor 1, 2 and 3 on (yellow):
"Icon0014_Text"="Recycle Bin"
"Icon0014_X"="2573"
"Icon0014_Y"="2212"

Looking at the image I attached of my monitor layout, you can see that the stored location seems to be relative to the most upper and left part of my current desktop.

So my question or suggestion is could you instead store the location based on the upper left position of the primary monitor, therefore allowing the profiles to be consistent when secondary monitors aren't currently in use?

EDIT: Updated picture for accuracy

Hi Travis,

Thanks for the clarification! I'm going to check in with out developers on this. In the mean time, are you able to create a icon profile for each monitor?

Thanks!

Yes, two monitor profiles works but unfortunately that doesn't help with the way I'm attempting to automate the use of these profiles. I can go in to detail if you like.

Hi Travis,

I spoke with our developers, and you are correct, the icons are saved relative to the furthest top left point. Unfortunately Windows doesn't handle them on a per monitor basis, its just a big rectangle (as you pointed out in your picture), so there's not much we can do.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!
