About two weeks ago I started having issues with the app not fully loading in Windows 7. The Services loads and the main DisplayFusion.exe shows as loaded in Task Manager and I have an icon in the system tray, but nothing else works.

I get no toolbar on my second monitor, none of my keyboard shortcuts work, and right-clicking will bring up an option for the dialog box but I cannot launch into any of the main screens for Settings, or monitor config.

Sometimes after a reboot, the system will load without issue but I have not been able to get it to load for the past 3 days and have sporadic problems since this started.

I checked the event logs and no entries stating that a component could not load or that something is being blocked.

Any help would be appreciated.

The next time you can get it to load after a reboot, can you enable debug logging? On the Settings > Troubleshooting tab, set it to "L1: Log Minimal" and click OK. Then the next time it doesn't load correctly, please send over the "DisplayFusion.log" file, located in %LOCALAPPDAT%\DisplayFusion.

Thanks!

Happened again today (4/27/17). I have attached the log file you asked for.

Thank you for your help with this.

Weird! Seems like it just hung or died while trying to load the language files. Unfortunately there isn't anything further in the log to indicate what might have happened. Could you try increasing the logging to L2: Log Detailed and then send another one when this happens again?

So, I continue to have problems off and on, mostly on the last three days. When I finally got DF to load the task bar and everything else working, I found I could not get to the Settings screen to launch, or another other "settings" screens either. Although all buttons and shortcuts worked without issue.

I dug through the registry and manually turned on logging to level 2 and captured the attached log this morning after a reboot so you can easily see the log and not have to dig for info.

Thanks! The log still only shows that it died early into the startup process, but I think it's dying before it can write out all of the log lines :(

The next time you can get it to start, can you send me just the Troubleshooting info?
  • Open the Settings > Troubleshooting tab
  • Click the "Copy to Clipboard" button
  • Paste the text into a text file (please don't paste the text directly into your reply, the formatting gets garbled and makes it difficult to parse)
  • Reply with the file attached

Been trying to get the system to the point that I can get the info you asked for but no luck. It really is the strangest thing. Another person in my office has this app and has had no problems at all.

As soon as I can get the Troubleshooting info, I will attach it.

Is there any way to get what you need when the app will not load?

Unfortunately the app needs to be running to collect all the information. That is strange that someone else in the same environment is running fine, it must be something local to your computer.
