Displayfusion is really useful, especially now that I moved to a 32in 4k monitor. But I am still experiencing an old bug that is very annoying. So I'll try to lay out my setup and issue and maybe a dev will be able to see what's happening.

Hardware Setup :
2 Monitors. A 1440p 24in monitor set as primary. A secondary 32in 4k monitor.

DisplayFusion Setup :
The primary monitor is left as is while the secondary (4k) monitor is split in displayfusion as 4 1080p "screens/monitors". I have it setup this way so that I can have whatever I'm working on on the primary monitor while having multiple references laid out on my 4k monitor.

Windows Virtual Desktop Setup: (or how I would like it to be)
I have 3 virtual desktops setup. I have dedicated shortcuts on my mouse that help me in moving left and right across desktops, so it is very convenient for me to switch desktops.
1. General Purpose: So this desktop has a bunch of apps and windows.
2. Trading : So this has a bunch of open windows that show prices and such.
3. Work : The entire desktop is just a full screen rdp to my work laptop.

Problem:
With virtual desktop and displayfusion, whatever app i have open on the secondary monitor, will appear in all 3 desktops. But it doesn't happen for the apps that are on the primary monitor. For example, if i open an explorer window and place it on the primary monitor, it only appears on the virtual desktop that I opened it. But if i move the same window to the secondary monitor, it will be visible on all the virtual desktops. This doesn't happen if i don't have displayfusion running. But it is a pain to position all the windows manually in the virtual desktop.

Hope this is a minor bug that's fixable.

Hello,

We are aware of this issue if your taskbar mode is set to "All taskbars show relevant windows" and have it on our list to look into. We'll be sure to let you know if we have any news on it in the future.

In the meantime, if you set your taskbar mode in DisplayFusion to "Windows taskbar shows all windows, DisplayFusion shows relevant windows", it should fix this up.

Thanks!

I have a similar problem. Changing desktops always leaves the left desktop unchanged. Changing the setting seems to fix things, but I'm not really sure what else it changes.

Hi Mark,

That setting just changes how icons appear on your taskbar. Every window from every monitor will appear on your Windows taskbar, but only windows on their respective monitors will appear on the DisplayFusion taskbars.

Thanks!

OK - I see now.
For Display Fusion to be most useful, virtual desktops won't work properly. The correct word for this is a bug.

Setting "All taskbars show relevant windows" is much less useful - if I have multiple browser (or other) windows open, knowing which taskbar item relates to which window is trial and error. It's hard to understand a reason someone would want to use this, but maybe I just don't get it.

Apparently looking around here this bug has persisted for quite a while. I think this diminishes the value I get for my purchase.
Time to fix it.
Is this worth a direct communication with Binary Fortress? They likely to do anything??

There's a word for how you're behaving too.

Did you try? Or do you prefer just making snide comments in public?

This has apparently been in the status of "we're aware and looking into it" for quite a long time - as in years. It deserves critical comment.

I had presumed that a comment here was equivalent to informing the company (perhaps not), but also that it wouldn't matter, since they are aware and still haven't fixed it.

As to its snideness quotient - I will leave that to the experts.

Except it's not anymore.

Thanks - If I understand the table I see that this issue has been around for a while, but is unfixable in Win10.

At least now I can track it, though I would guess it's not likely to change any time soon.
