I run with 4 monitors. From time to time (I think when I upgrade video drivers), the monitor numbers change.

Which sets all my functions for hotkeying windows to different places break.

It would be nifty if I could set up monitor aliases and have my functions point to those. Then when my numbers changed, I'd just need to remap the aliases and the functions would be updated.

One better would be if DF could figure out what the new mapping should be, where possible, based on monitor info (for instance, I have 3 different resolutions of monitors, and of the two with the same resolution, one is Portrait and the other Portrait (flipped)). Clearly, this wouldn't work all the time, but it would still be a time saver.

This happens to me some times when updating NVIDIA drivers as well, but a reboot usually fixes it up. Do your monitor IDs stay changed after rebooting, or do they go back to the proper ones?

Could be, as I don't use my hotkeys very often. But I just went through it last night (the updating of my functions) and I don't think the driver updated recently, so I suspect the renumbering survived a reboot.

I also use nVidia.

Ok no worries, just wanted to check the easy stuff first :)

We have a couple of ideas on how we might be able to make this work. If we're able to implement the changes and they work, I'll update this topic so that you can test it out.

Thanks!

Made a point to confirm today after taking a video driver update that the monitor numbers reset after a reboot.
