Quite a few of the issues posted have images attached in a 'Protected' state yet they dont contain sensative information.
A lot of users would find it useful to compare these images with their own similar issues.
Can you not have the 'Protected' option unchecked by default which would allow anyone posting a sensative image, bug report or log to still protect the upload.
I believe a lot of users post an image without looking at or understanding the 'Protected' option, and surely you must agree that most images dont need protecting which would (a) help other members to understand and relate to the issues and (b) reduce the amount of duplicate posts.

Just a Saturday morning thought :)

It's a good thought, especially for screenshots. However, we also ask customers to post troubleshooting info and debug logs, which can contain sensitive information, so we opted to have it enabled by default. It's easy for the user or us to unprotect a file if needed, but if sensitive info was posted unprotected, there would be no way for us to retract it from anyone who had already downloaded before the user realized it should have been protected.

Hope that makes sense!

I understand what you are saying Keith, perhaps better information on the fact that screenshots , or at least most of them, do not need to be protected would help posters.

Thanks Alan! We've added a notice underneath the checkbox that should hopefully make it more clear when posting :)
